You might remember when I raved about this black jumpsuit back in summer. Back then I wondered how I would get the most out of it come winter but I knew that I was determined to make it work. Which, with a few simple items under, I have. For these photos, it’s all about a t-shirt. A bodysuit, especially my sheer one, also works a charm, especially for evenings.
If I have one tip, it would be to use a top over a bodysuit, you thought you felt naked in a jumpsuit when it comes to going to the bathroom. WELL! Add a bodysuit to that and well, it’s rather exposed, to say the least. Use caution and wear some serious coverage underwear or you may freeze. Haha. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
For me, being able to take something you love from your wardrobe and make it work year round, is what it’s about. You’re never going to see me go on and on about new items, cheap items or adding lots of ‘newness’ to your closet. Recycling and re-wearing are where it’s at for me. And I’m sure, for most of you! It’s bullshit to expect people to be adding constantly to their wardrobe. I think so, what say you?
Wearing Birdsnest Wideleg Black Jumpsuit (size 22) over City Chic T-Shirt (similar) and Target Australia Slides (similar).
This is one of those moments that the photos just don’t do this outfit justice. The light was fading, along with my patience, and after a number of attempts, we had to leave with what we had before it was dark. Sigh. Blog life, man. But, that said, I’m pleased I have some to share with you from this afternoon. This look is one I’ve been wearing a lot this winter. Queensland winter, of course.
Oh hey, team, as promised I’m back today with the first of some new outfit photos we managed to get photographed. Finally. I picked up a few items that have become wardrobe staples (and some that were sent and are so much fun!) and it’s time to share them. And after a number of unsuccessful attempts to get photos of what I’ve been wearing it actually happened. So for today’s post, I’m keeping it simple with a black maxi dress I bought from ASOS. Those with a super keen eye for such things might recognise the shape; I also have it in grey.
When something works, got with it, right?
Even in winter (our version, of course), it’s an easy layering item. I often pair it with my sneakers or slides, a jacket or throw. I really love it with a longline cardigan, it all feels really sweeping and dramatic. And, as is usually my style, super comfortable and easy to wear. If you’ve spotted me at my local cafe lately, I was probably wearing this. In fact, if you’re my mailman and you showed up to my house, you’ve seen me in this. A couple of times, I’ve worn it to bed. You just can’t argue with that for comfort.
And when you’re running around after your the Mr for a weekend in search of storage drives and power packs and USB drives for the car, well you need to be comfortable. After four coffees, three different overcrowded carparks and a breakfast that could only be described as hollandaisey, we finished our chores and came home. Where I promptly fell asleep on the couch to the comforting sounds of YouTube tutorials. I’m working under the delusion that if I listen to them while I sleep I’ll learn more.
It’s a thing, promise.
I slept for a while until the cold of the afternoon and the crashing thud of freshly cut firewood being dropped on the back verandah woke me. It was practically magical. A slow evening around the fire watching movies with Kel followed (make sure you watch Bridges of Spies, so good) and before I knew it it was Monday again. Weekends, days, and hours seem to fly past. I don’t know where the time is going. But I know that for once I’ve settled in, comfy maxi and all, and I’m determined not to miss one bit.
Wearing Universal Standard Meridan Zip Pullover (L – gifted), ASOS Curve Tank Maxi Dress (similar) and Target Australia Slides.
And I just realised I didn’t talk about this ‘pullover’ from Universal Standard. I talked about it in the “Brand Crush” post (a little) but if you have any other questions about fit or anything, let me know in the comments (yes, we can still talk there despite all the millions of social media options, haha). Have a great week, team. I hope the start hasn’t treated you too badly.
This was going to be an outfit post. But it sort of turned into something else. Because this weekend we are at home, there is nowhere to go, and no one to see. Nothing to do but recharge the old batteries and prepare ourselves for another busy month ahead. I need weekends like this one. I highly recommend weekends like this one. Pull on your snuggly gear and settle in to read, and sleep in and bask in the sun.
That’s my plan.
It’s actually going rather well.
This afternoon we saw a movie, cooked ourselves dinner and now we’re settled on the couch watching tv. I tap-tap away on websites, finishing the launch show notes for the SUGER+INK podcast and this post. Perfection.
When I’m quiet, after a packed week like I’ve just had, I can’t help but smile at how life turns out. I’m doing more of the things that I love with workshops and social media clients, time to blog and time with my Mr. I think when I decided to start to carve out more time for the things I love by scaling back my work hours, I absolutely made the right choice. And yes, money has been tighter, but who cares right? Money schmoney.
Get comfy team, slip on some jeans and a knit and hang out.
Wearing long-sleeve top from Kmart, bemeBuckle Trim Tunic, Harlow Black Jeans (24) and New Look Wide Fit boots.
Big call on the headline there, don’t you think team? NEVER let me down. Like, ever. But the anti-fit jean came into my life with the first 17 Sundays release and it’s been my go-to style ever since. After decades of mot really knowing what shape I’d call myself, it turns out that my stomach absolutely pushes me into apple territory. And the anti-fit, well it’s an apple girls dream jean.
Why!?
Because the lean fit of the leg, the WIDE waistband, and the skinny, skinny ankle. Fits like a glove, let me tell you. And even if you are days before your period, have over-indulged, or skipped the gym for a few weeks giving you a little extra squish in the middle, they will still love you. Trust me. I know that first hand.
But don’t take my word for it. Everyone has to go out there and find their ideal fit when it comes to jeans. I lived in skinny jeans for ages, boyfriend jeans (like in yesterday’s post) took their place and then from there it’s all the anti-fit or joggers. What can I say, my style got a little more slouchy and a little less work style on the weekends. But a change is as good as a holiday.
I think you need to try a lot of jeans on, you have to experiment with lengths and cuts and finally find the fit that works for your body NOW. My biggest struggle was for years holding on to skinny jeans that were either two sizes too big or at least one size too small. My weight has varied about 15kg over the last few years, and depending on how regular I am at the gym I swing between a size 20 to a 26 in jeans. So update your jeans when your body changes.
Seriously.
What the heck are you waiting for?
The next 5kg? The perfectly defined waist? I don’t know what your thing is but there’s a chance it’s not coming anytime soon. So shop for jeans you love now. Invest in pieces that you are going to love and let your body change as it will. Great jeans will last as long as you need them to. And some trend pieces, that won’t cost you the earth, will too. So get trying, get buying and rock the heck out of whatever turns out to be YOUR go-to style!
Um yeah, they ARE flares. Killer, right? We might as well kick plus size jeans week off with a killer pair of flares and a fucker tee. I’m going to get to the flares, I promise I am, but I also need to talk about why it was SO important for me to wear this Be Polite You Fucker tee today. And I know you want to hear THAT story. Haha.
Well, well, well. It’s been an interesting few days for me. I launched myself into a conversation for body shaming and found my Facebook page front and centre in a discussion for women, against women and with so many shades of grey opinions that I wore myself out. Deleting and banning troll fuckers took up a good part of my Friday night.
And I’m ok with that.
Often, I wish I were in a position to speak up for those in our community who are suffering. Not just women or those who find themselves on the outskirts of what society calls beautiful, but for the real issues. The big ones. I see the things happening in the world, and I get so annoyed. So frustrated. So pissed off.
I want to shake people who form their opinion of things on Facebook and fail to do any research into what it is they are backing. I want to cry at the injustice and horrors committed in the name of right.
I just can’t even.
And that from my position of privilege, I have to acknowledge that. No one has ever looked at me and assumed things that I believe make me unwelcome here, that I’m going to make them unsafe or destroy their (apparently) perilously perched life by just being myself. I know the struggle of women, but only from the safest of positions.
I stand behind those who need me more now than ever. I want to be the change we NEED to see in this world. Be polite you fucker indeed. Sometimes I just want to scream be polite you fucker. And I’m sure I’m not alone in that. I know you guys, you’re hurt and frustrated too. Let’s all find the courage to speak out more, ok? Be brave and share more. Fuck them, those fuckers.
Now about these flares. There’s actually not too much to say really. Apparently, I had more to say about the other issue. These flares are an exaggerated boot cut with a high waist and double button feature, lots of stretch and a fit like no one’s business and they’re from beme. On their website they call them a bootcut but for me, the ankle is wide enough to be a flare, for sure. I love the curve and fit that they give after so long in skinny jeans or slouchy joggers.
And you know what they say? A change is as good as a holiday.
Wearing Be Polite You Fucker Tee by Rebel Soul Collective (XL), beme bootcut jeans (or try these flare flares) and Target heels.
So, jeans week is off and running with a rant and an up yours to those online jerks with fake facts who scream panic from the hilltops… What a start! Tomorrow, we talk boyfriend jeans. Are you ready for that?
When the blog mojo fails, and you’ve been posting nothing (well, not nothing, but nothing on the blog), then it’s time to take it back to basics. And basics for me is my good old ankle boots, chambray, and a throw over jacket combination. Luckily for me the Team at 17 Sundays have me well stocked in denim/chambray pieces (as per) and I’ve got my winter look all wrapped up.
I know, some of you are like WINTER!? Winter, seriously Suger your leg are still bare. But well, such is life around here. Sure nights get cold, where I live can just edge over into the minuses temperature wise. But the days are perfection full of sunshine and skipping along in grassy meadows.
Ok. Maybe not the meadow bit.
Lucky me. I do envy those of you in jumpers, knits and boots, though. Legit winter type weather but let’s face it; I probably wouldn’t survive. I’m lucky enough to have warm weather follow me wherever I go; New Zealand, Melbourne nearly every time I’m there. I’m the summer whisperer. Go me.
But wait, what was I talking about? Man, that was a diversion. Anyway. When my mojo is gone, there’s nothing else for it but to pull out the classics, the clothes I know work for me and on me, and get back on the horse. Which I did if this week is anything to go by. Plus I have some cool stuff in the wings that, yup you guessed it, it’s too soon to talk about. LOL.
Sleeveless Trench Jacket from Target Australia (similar’ish), Boots from Bare Foot Tess (old, sorry babes) and Weekend Denim Dress from 17 Sundays. Regrowth by me.
So tell me, what’s your go-to style to get your mojo back? Got a link or photo you want to share? Hit me with them. Until then, I’ll be prancing about in meadows laughing at how ridiculous this post ended up being. Gosh.
Recently my office at work moved locations and I find myself in a Construction Depot with all the dust and dirt that entails. On the upside, I don’t have a great deal of customer contact, so I’m actually pretty much ok to wear whatever I like. Winning! So my work look, with the addition of these Autograph Fashion boots, has been all about easy layers.
Mostly black, as per.
My favourite thing of all time this winter is once again the sleeveless jacket. So great for that run from the car to the office and just as comfortable in a heated office when you get there. It’s a great compromise especially for those of us far enough north to make the cold weather manageable. That’s my hot tip for cold weather.
That and boots, so thank goodness it is boots week. Well, unofficially, but we are talking all boots, all week loooong. If you want more tips on wearing this style of knee-high boots check out my post from yesterday. Later in the week I’ll be uploading an ankle boots post along the same lines. Any questions? Ask them in the comments and I’ll update the post with the ones that need more info.
Winter, it finally showed up and isn’t it looooooover-ly.

Do you have a secret weapon when it comes to winter work style? Tell meeeeee!
Here’s the thing, I have this obsession with mustard the colour, and well the condiment too now that I mention it. But it doesn’t really like me back. But I keep trying and it keeps rejecting me and I keep trying… And well, you get the point.
Ordering some newness at ASOS a little while back I had the option of this dress in a couple of colours. I chose mustard because I’m a glutton for punishment. It arrived, I loved it and it as usual the bitch didn’t love me back. Haha. But I’m forcing it by using the patterned floral bomber as a bit of a buffer.
What can you do.
Sometimes if it makes you happy, you should just wear it.
Forget the rules.
In fun other news it also LOOKS like I’m pregnant or smuggling a second person under my dress when side on too. It’s cheese and wine mostly. But there’s that. My fault, I’d sized up for slouch, and luckily length, but no matter what others say about wearing over-sized I like it. So I do. After all, what are casual weekends for if not a little rule breaking.
Wearing ASOS Curve Swing Dress (similar in black or wine), Target Australia Slides and Wonderlust for The Iconic jacket (via Emma!). Sorry team, mostly old stuff this post but hey, that’s the way it goes right? We can’t have new stuff every time, what sort of Budget Fashionista would I be then. Haha.
This grey skirt has been making the rounds on my Instagram lately. Mostly with a certain t-shirt with the F-bomb on the front. Which is pretty much my favourite tee of all time. So when I wore it again, with white this time, I thought why not post one more, man I love summer type outfit before we officially break out the boots for the year, yeah?
But what these photos don’t tell you is that by the time it came to take them on our way out to get dinner I was annoyed. I was annoyed at life, at how hot the day had been, at my car for being dirty, and especially at Mr Suger who was entertaining himself snapping photos of me being a grumpy bitch.
I’m not sure you can understand what goes on in my head sometimes. I get that Mr Suger taking photos is a favour to me. He doesn’t have to. Sure he loves me and should help me out, but he doesn’t HAAAAAVE to. I try to be grateful for how involved he is. How willingly involved he is. But some days I just huff and puff and eye roll and nothing can stop me.
And grateful, well that’s just a distant memory. Eeek.
Sooo, if I look a little grumpy, I am.
If you’ve noticed there are less photos than normal, there are.
But let’s face it, anytime you take a simple white tank, pair it with a simple grey skirt and some white converse sneakers, it must be documented. Even if you’re having a bitch fit and it’s being captured on camera. Maybe even especially if that happens so you can remember that you’re just a jerk with a keyboard. Not the Queen of Sheeba. And perhaps some humility would help. Right, Mr Suger? Haha.
Wearing Target Australia Basic Tank, ASOS Curve Wrap Midi Skirt and Converse Sneakers.
Mr Suger was not harmed in the making of this post.
My friend Emma is getting married later this year and when I looked into my wardrobe, the discussions over what to wear have begun, there was nothing there that I hadn’t worn a billion and one times and I was over it. So I did what most plus size women do for such an occasion, I went to ASOS.
Months in advance.
Because there’s one thing I’ve learnt about buying plus size clothing for special occasions and that is that there will be nothing when you need it and there will be lots when you don’t. So you better start early and plan ahead. Such is life. Murphy’s Law or something.
With some browsing, this blush bodycon dress, along with the marble print one from a few weeks ago, made their way into my cart and into my post box. There might have also been a bit of casual clothing action too, but what can you do? A girl must be prepared. Haha.
Now, the Mr thinks this dress looks like someone took a longer dress and tucked it in the belt. Like when you are getting married and you have to hoick up your wedding dress to pee… Like that. Thanks husband type person. Men. But I like it. I think the drape and the oddness of it is what makes it cool.
Even if the back split meant I spent the majority of the afternoon attempting to securing my bra’s back strap below the split. Anyone have any tips for getting your bra to sit lower? Do I need a special bra or can I manufacture something out of what I have? Let me know. I’m not above using duct tape a la Kim Kardashian, but let’s face it. I’m going to require a substantial amount…

Oh my goodness it’s been a while since I updated the dress portion of my wardrobe. Like, a reeeeeally long time. I was flicking through the hanging space (once again making inroads into the having a sale thing) and there was literally nothing I wanted to wear. So it was time. ASOS, here I come.
I hadn’t seen the marble print bodycon dress online before. I guess I was a little late to THAT party. When I looked around, it had absolutely been featured in some blog posts and Instagrams and I knew I HAD to have it. I mean, hello, it’s gorgeous and will work for everything from work to the races. I need that kind of versatile in my wardrobe.
I hadn’t seen the marble print bodycon dress online before. I guess I was a little late to THAT party. Because when I looked around, it had absolutely been featured in some blog posts and Instagrams and I knew I HAD to have it. The simple cut is something I reach for often, it suits my shape and the cute crossover hem grabbed my attention.
SOLD.
Now I don’t know about you, but I have a go-to look. The girls pointed this out when I showed them my shopping haul. The straight line, gathered, and length just above or just below my knees. And when I shop online I know that I can buy a dress like this, check the measurements and make it mine knowing it will work for me. I highly recommend it as a strategy.
You have to have a strategy for this online shopping business. Otherwise, you are buying all sorts of things and they don’t work or you don’t like them or feel comfortable in them. So have an idea of what you want, and go for that and only that. I picked up another dress in this over and it’s a very similar style. But different. That’s my hot tip for today. Know what works for you, what you’re comfortable in and look for that online. Done deal.
Marble Print Bodycon Dress ASOS Curve, Shoes Target Australia, Bag Kardashian Collection, Makeup by Madame Rouge Makeup.
Around here we are BIG fans of the monochrome outfit. So when the team at Target Australia asked me to share some of the new items from the Belle Curve range stacked high with khaki goodness. From that moment, I knew I’d tackle monochrome outfits. I’m a planner, what can I say? And I’m really, really into khaki right now.
I mean, check out my Instagram lately. It’s ridiculous.
So with items selected from the collection (and a few extras it turns out, check out this beauty I wore to work that ended up a bit too formal for this outfit) and some I’d purchased earlier this year. I had a sea of khaki, and I wasn’t afraid to use it.
In the end, I went for a casual combination (this maxi was $15 FULL PRICE, whoa) paired with a sleeveless vest and white tee to show off the monochromatic theming. Plus nude shoes because that’s always a god thing. So how do you give YOUR monochrome outfit a little bit of extra oomph? I’ve got your back, like this!
How to give your monochrome outfit oomph.
Colour game strong
Well, first of all, you kick the black to the kerb. All black is all kinds of perfection, don’t get me wrong. And just the right mix of such things are all a girl needs to kick some fashion goals, but black on black on black is great, monochrome in colour is next level. It might even be cooler than double denim. Probably not, but maybe. So go top to toe in your favourite colour and really show them who is boss. Bonus points for brights! Haha.
Warm vs. Cool
When you’re pairing ALL your next level coloured goodness together, you’re going to want them to work together. The simplest way to do this is to match the TONES of your colours. The green in this outfit is cool toned. If I were adding pieces, I would look for similarly toned items to add so they worked together. Easy.
Work the nude
If you can’t match your shoes or accessories, go for nude. Reach for your classic nude shoes or bag and you won’t detract from the monochrome effect. And sure I’ve paired my key colour with white here, but monochrome doesn’t seem to count shades for whatever reason. Haha. I don’t know the rules, I just yap on about them, ok?
