Boots, boots, wide fit boots: the 2017 edition

Boots, boots, wide fit boots: the 2017 edition

Are we ready to rumble? Wide fit boots, that are both cool and suitable for the plus-size customer? I thought you might be. Of course, you are, with winter is around the (okay, maybe a couple of) corners and I don’t know about you, but it’s about that time I start to hunt for boots! Ankle boots, knee-high boots, heck this year, even over the knee boots. I’m ready. Are you ready for boots season?

If you’re keen to check out how I wear boots, including some outfit inspiration from the blog, I created a couple of posts for boots week a while ago. There are posts about how I wear ankle boots and the one where I talk about wearing knee-high boots, as well. Easy peasy. Now that that’s sorted, let’s talk what I’m planning for in 2017, boots-wise.

What I’m into for 2017

Okay team, for me this year it’s all about the over the knee boot. I want them. I’m eyeballing them everywhere. I just want to buy them all, never mind the fact we have winter for like a month here. I’m team boots. But then you knew that. This over the knee obsession comes from this clear visual I have of me in a knit mini, over the knee boots and soft trench. I cannot get it out of my mind.

And, of course, there are ankle boots in my future. The grey heeled ones from City Chic (four) in particular. I don’t need a lot when it comes to shoes. I want some heeled black ones too and I’m done. After all, these days, I’m more of a sneakers kind of girl anyway. Lucky for me, I don’t really have to choose! My style works with both.

Ready. Steady. Shop wide fit boots.

Don’t forget to search the blog for the wide fit boots posts from previous years. Most of them link to the online store so the links will still be relevant. Plus, you get to check out how I used to layout these posts. Haha. Flashback moment. Happy shopping team, let me know how you go.

Work style stripes

Work style stripes

If you feel like you’ve seen this work style outfit before, it would be because you sort of have. But with ankle boots, of course, which is the way I’m most likely to be wearing it. It’s a go-to outfit for the office. So go-to in fact that it is constantly either being worn, being washed or being dried. I can’t image the pieces will last much longer, but they aren’t showing signs of wear and tear yet. YET. I need like 5 more of each to keep me in items forever.

So why does this outfit work for the office so easily?

Well you can add a jacket and maybe a pendant necklace for meeting days. You can add boots on casual days. And then when it is all said and done you can flip your hair, add some lippie and wear it to the pub afterwards. Versatile. Simple. That’s the aim and this outfit delivers. Work style win team, such a win.

Do you have a go-to work style that you fall back on when you’re running late or lacking inspiration? TELL MEEEEE! I could use a few more tricks up my sleeve. A few not so stripy, not so ankle boot-ie type tricks. What can I say, I’m a create of habit. Share the love and inspiration team. Photos and posts welcome in the comments.

Aussie Curves: Denim – Boyfriend Jeans Again

Aussie Curves: Denim – Boyfriend Jeans Again

No one can say that I don’t stick with things. When I find something that I like I flog that thing to death. Boyfriend jeans are one such thing. These are from Torrid, and when I originally purchased them I thought they were going to be more of a skinny jean, my go to style. A happy surprise indeed. These are my new go-to jeans.

And what can I say, the 90s girl in me couldn’t resist the boyfriend jeans with the bodysuit thing so here we are. Easily my favourite combination. And I know I say that a lot but it is this combination that saw me put aside my ankle boots {(though it works just as well with boots) and slip on some heels again. Perfect and oh so cool.

As an aside… You know the thing I find difficult about bodysuits with a long torso? Even when I sized up, which I did twice, they are still like wearing a size too small swimsuit, dragging everything down with them. I think I might give them up soon in favour of the normal old tuck.

Anywaaaaaays, moving on, so go ahead and enjoy the Aussie Curves: Denim week, my photos and the submissions from the other ladies. First week of a new challenge year. Fun!

Steal Her Style: Maleficent

Steal Her Style: Maleficent

No really, hand me over the ruby-red lippie and the all black ensemble. This autumn/winter I have been seriously in love with black and white and the shades of grey in between. THIS sort of pushed me over the edge. All black. Black on black. A bit of dramatic styling. I want it all and more. I even ordered my first ever Limecrime matte red lipstick. It’s happening folks. Expect for there to be a blackout.

So why the flash of inspiration? What other than the ridiculously gorgeous Angelina Jolie in a killer movie about one of the best characters EVER? Well just all that of course. Hubby and I attended the media screening in Brisbane on Tuesday night {one of the first in the world, oh la dee dah} at the recently renovated and soon to be open for BIG business Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.

In 3D. And I’m normally not a fan of 3D, extreme tendencies for motion sickness induced vomiting have put me off BUT this was magnificent. I’d even recommend the 3D version to people, which I never, ever, ever do. It was visually stunning and the story is unique but not overly unexpected in this modern fairytale world we live in. Some people have said they made Maleficent whimpy and watered down, I disagree. Angelina is all kinds of wonderful and even when she busts out some version of a leather catsuit during I didn’t roll my eyes. Plus Elle Fanning is gorgeous like a little ray of sunshine as Princess Aurora, I was transfixed.

So enough about that, right? You want to know HOW to dress like an evil fairy QUEEN right? Well derr. And thanks to Torrid you can do it pretty easily because they have an official Maleficent RANGE. If you can handle their ridiculous shipping charges {go in with a friend, that’s what we do}.

Yup, I’ll wait here while you check them out. Apparently a lot of the items are marked almost sold out so get in quick if something takes your fancy. And no, excuse me, this is not a sponsored post for Torrid. I found the range via their newsletter, to which I subscribe, and clicked through. Anything with a popped collar the size of the one on the aptly named High-Collar Dress HAD to be in this post, don’t you think?

But what’s THAT, you want mooooore? Well here are some black, black, black basics that will get you in the mood to be bad. Very, very bad. In the very best way. After all, every girl needs a little black on black wardrobe action now and again. So get your eyeliner and red lipstick ready, I’ve got you covered with the very best I could find on the interwebs. You’re welcome.

Where to Buy Plus Size Jeans

Where to Buy Plus Size Jeans

Today I’m sharing my favourite places to shop for plus size jeans! From classic, structured denim to fashion-forward, classic and beautifully cut to on-trend fits and styles. There is something here for everyone {sizes 00-30}. For years it was impossible to find well-fitting jeans in plus and curve ranges. I don’t know about you, but my past with jeans has been extensive and at times rocky.

Are you ready to shop? Where to Buy plus size jeans

17 Sundays Denim - Where to buy plus size denim jeans - Suger Coat It

17 Sundays {sizes 12 – 26}

This Australian label delivers you sexy, white-hot denim in some of the best colours this season. Heck, any season. Slim-fit pants, ankle crops and zip details. These are young and fun and something I wish was around when I was a size 16 teen looking for clothes that fit the body I had, not the one I was trying to diet and exercise in to. Know someone fun? Tell them about these jeans. The best.

ASOS Curve Denim - Where to buy plus size denim jeans - Suger Coat It

ASOS Curve {sizes 2 – 30}

An affordable and easy wear option, the ASOS Curve {and now featuring New Look denim too} jeans make up the majority of my wardrobe. ASOS provides lots of great options in lots of sizes that really fit the fashion denim category. These are the jeans you pick up when you want acid wash, high waist coloured jeans. These are where you pick up the trendsetter jeans. They won’t last you a million years, but they will get you through a season or two and for their price, they’re more than worth it.

Embody Denim - Where to buy plus size denim jeans - Suger Coat It

Embody Denim {sizes 6 – 22}

Having not purchased these jeans myself, only working off online reviews these are the jeans you invest in. Classic styles, colours and cuts, these are your investment jeans. Cut beautifully in quality denim all the reviews talk about their quality and weight. The weight of the denim wears in beautifully and holds you tight without strangling you. Check them out if you are looking for THE pair.

Torrid - Where to buy plus size denim jeans - Suger Coat It

Torrid Denim {sizes 00 – 30}

Another in the fashion jeans category is the Torrid Denim range. You’ve heard me rave about these beauties and I only have the two pairs. A great fit, lots of options in terms of style and fit and colour, these are worth paying the postage to Australia to get your hands on. The skinny fit ankle zip jeans are my personal favourite, I love the showing of the ankle, there’s just something so HOT about that. And since it’s never really THAT cold here, I can wear them all year round. Try the Torrid jeans if you want range, a great fit and fashion colours/styles.

Good American - Where to buy plus size denim jeans - Suger Coat It

Good American {sizes 00 to 26}

Founded by Khloe Kardashian, Good American kicked off their range with jeans and denim and since expanding into loungewear, sweats and even shoes. They’ve recently bought out a basic denim range for $99 a pair giving more entry-level options from this premium brand. Fans rave about the fit and style of these jeans and how well they fit and wear. With new fits coming out regularly, they’re well worth a look for your next piece of denim.

Cotton On - Where to buy plus size denim jeans - Suger Coat It

Cotton On Curve {sizes 16 to 24}

Cotton On is a simple, cheerful range of denim that is also available on ASOS and other platforms. I’ve picked up a few items from this range when I wanted more trend pieces or seasonal styles. This doesn’t mean the quality is terrible, it is pretty good. The denim is basic though and doesn’t hold up to some of the premium brands we’ve also featured. But for simple, accessible pieces, they are well worth a look.

That’ the wrap-up, where do you buy your jeans from? What do you look for in a good pair of jeans? Fit, form, function? Let me know below. Coming up next fortnight I’m planning to share some great spots to grab plus size tights. With winter coming up, some great pairs of tights are essential. Either that or I’m going trend spotting with leather. I haven’t decided yet. Do you have a preference?

As far as plus size jeans go, I’ve already had a couple of tips regarding other denim one-stop shops. Let me know where you get your jeans in the comments below because like the wide fitting boots post, this one may need a follow-up.
