Aussie Curves: Picnic

Aussie Curves: Picnic

My idea of a picnic involves about a billion dollars spent at the local deli to adequately satisfy my love of all things antipasto, crusty bread and fresh fruits. Seriously. When we picnic we picnic haaard. This time though, we were off to brunch. I was just awake after arriving home after 3am from a hens party. Sobor! Winning. And I wanted something comfortable, cool and a little bit cuuuuute too. Because why go to the effort being out of bed on a Sunday morning if you don’t look cute doing it, right? Might as well sleep in.

Ha.

How is that for a little bit of a weirdo philosophy on life? But anyway, this dress from the team at 17 Sundays fits the bill beautifully. If you have considered it. Looked at it online and thought maybe. Then I strongly suggest you check out the amazing, intricate and so very vintage knit’esque sleeves and hem. That my friends is attention to detail. Check it out. (more…)

Aussie Curves: Second-Hand

Aussie Curves: Second-Hand

My mother is a real estate agent. In the 90’s she was well into her awarded career and had the power-suited wardrobe to prove it. Jackets with matching skirts everywhere. Jackets in general appear to be her thing. And during a recent clean out I grabbed three {maybe four} from her closet clean out and added them to my own wardrobe. The one today is my favourites of those. The colours. The plaid. The awesomeness. Even though they are a wee bit too small, it’s Queensland who needs to be able to button them up anyways. Haha.

So my second-hand item comes to you care of my mother dearest. Legend.

And just quietly plaid is a bit huge at the moment this its perfect timing to drag these sort of relics out of the cupboard, dust them off and give them a new lease of life. I’ve never had much success at op-shops or vintage type stores. I love the idea though of having something that very few people would have. An item that can be the wow factor of a reasonably basic outfit.

Don’t you think? (more…)

Aussie Curves: Off the Runway

Aussie Curves: Off the Runway

OMG off the runway almost sent me into a crazy spiral of self-doubt. Runway, like I said to the ladies on the Aussie Curves Facebook page, is like declaring that you believe that your outfit is current and trendy and awesome. Runway worthy. And what if you’re wrong!? Awkward. Haha. But then Claire reminded me that I’m a fashion blogger, clearly I’m NOT wrong they are and I had to laugh at that.

So we’re going with THAT.

I opted to create a dinner date outfit using the sheer panelled flocked bodysuit I picked up by ASOS Curve from Curvy Cartel. Sheer is something almost all the folks sending clothes down the runway agree on. And what I wouldn’t have given to be able to pair it was a pleated or full midi-skirt. But alas, I’m working with what I have soooo I think the Bellecurve skirt makes the perfect va-va-voom stand in. Yes? (more…)

Aussie Curves: Sequins

Aussie Curves: Sequins

I used to have an aversion to sequins. I loved the look of them but hated the scratchiness. Annoying with a capital A. So I didn’t wear them. In fact I even sold many the sequin item that was given to me or purchased on a whim and inevitably discarded. This changed a little when I first slipped on this sequin bolero. It’s shiny and sparkly and beautiful. Win. And it’s COMFORTABLE and not scratchy. Double win.

So sequins and I got back on talking terms.

Then this skirt showed up.

Holy heck.

This skirt might just be THE item that changes everything for me. I mean LOOK AT IT. Just look. It’s sparkly goodness in a pint size package. And I do mean pint sized. It’s probably the littlest skirt I own out of plenty of little skirts. Sequins cost money I suppose, what can you do? Haha. I’ve only worn it once since purchasing it. It sort of seems like the sort of skirt that needs an occasion, you know? A party, a night on the town, a special occasion. (more…)

Aussie Curves: Boho

Aussie Curves: Boho

Like most themes, it takes me a little moving around of things to make it work. I like to choose an outfit and then hang it up to wait for an occasion. This jumpsuit arrived in the mail and I wore it two days later. I’d planned necklaces and bangles and all sorts of things to make it MORE boho but it was hot and I didn’t waaaaaant to. So I wore the belt from the jumpsuit as a necklace and dragged out an old one my Mum gave me.

Boho win.

At a stretch, I guess.

Maybe just look at the pretty trees in the background or something. Haha.

But let’s talk about this jumpsuit for a minute. I was certain that my Hubby would hate it. He’s absolutely not a fan of patterned pants and sort of scrunches up his face every time I drag out another pair. But this, he LOVED. Knock me over with a feather I didn’t expect THAT. I don’t know, maybe it’s the strapless top or the feel of the material. Whatever. He was a fan.

Surprising fashion win.

Aussie Curves: Valentines Day

Aussie Curves: Valentines Day

I can’t really share a full photo of what I’ll be wearing Valentine’s Day here. The whole make sure I’m wearing clothes on the internet personal rule forbids such things. Haha. But I’m okay with that. It’s meant to be a surprise anyway. A little hot pink something something from the City Chic lingerie line has that side of things in the bag. So now what, right?

Last year I wore this for a dinner date with Hubby. The lace skirt and layered heart necklaces was a romantical win. I’m not feeling overly romantic this year {and people who have to look me in the eye after reading this, maybe look away now! Haha} I’m feeling sexy if I’m honest. Recent developments in my relationship have led to all kinds of wonderful things. Lots of them. And so I don’t want cute. I want HOT. Writing that, declaring it and feeling it, well that’s a whole can of worms for some out there I’m sure. And I’m not stopping there. (more…)

Aussie Curves: Active

Aussie Curves: Active

This post contains items originally gifted for review. Like a million years ago.ย

Well, it’s activewear week and while it’s not really “fashion” {maybe I should have attempted a Sports Luxe themed post} it’s essential to the big girl on the go. Because if you’re not exercising, you’re nuts {just quietly}. The health benefits are incredible and if you are anything like me it will make you a little less crazy. Okay, way less crazy. Haha. I have a post coming up in a couple of weeks with Sequins and Sand talking about swimming swimmers {more activewear!} but for now, let’s see what we have here.

I have had this set from Virtu since my VERY FIRST review. And look at it. It’s practically still new. And don’t take that as a sign I haven’t worn them. Together or separately these babies have been in high rotation since day dot. The high quality and great design make them easy to work out in and comfortable. No issues with seams rubbing or the fit or anything. Seriously. Most pieces start from less than $50 {there’s a sale now and they are even cheaper} so why stuff around with cheap crap {for lack of a better word!} when you can get these.

Aussie Curves: Animalistic

Aussie Curves: Animalistic

Animal print and I don’t really like each other much. We like each other very little actually. There was a moment there thanks to a fabulous peplum and some killer heels I thought I might get past it… But not. ย Last time this theme came around I managed to use a snakeskin sort of print and give myself a bit of a woohoo, done! So I was ready to sit out.

Then this baby arrived.

This horse print, linen-blend baby from Forever21+, I mean. Right. Close enough, I was back in the game. Then when we were heading out and talking about places to grab the photos, Hubby suggested the local horse and rodeo grounds. It turns, it was perfect! Hello moderately sexual type signs. Hello beautiful tree grass and blue skies. Hello jump out of the car, snap some shots and go. (more…)

Aussie Curves: Double Take

Aussie Curves: Double Take

Doubkle take week, huh? Well this very nearly turned into a triple take {at least!}. I wear this black bodycon dress I picked up last winter from the team at 17 Sundays BASIC all the time. Layered mostly. Throw on a shrug. Tucked under skirts {short or long} like in this older post. And sometimes on the rare occasion I wear it on its own as a woot woo dress that is both simple and effective.

Multi use items are essential in my wardrobe. I don’t like items that you can only wear once. It annoys me. Like, what are you doing just HANGING there you lazy sod of a dress, match something! So my tip is to never take something home that you can’t imagine wearing with three things you ALREADY own. Or in three different ways, at least. Anything else is a waste of space. Leave it. Come back if you get to three.

For today’s post I left it plain, with wedges and some bling for a night out on the town and with a casual maxi for a lazy sunday lunch. Easy peasy.ย  (more…)

Aussie Curves: Breaking the Rules

Aussie Curves: Breaking the Rules

Breaking all the fashion rules can be as simple as wearing what you want, when you want. There are plenty of voices out there who will tell you what they think you should and shouldn’t be wearing. Even more who will tell you that there’s a fixed method to looking good and being ‘cool’. I’m all for trends and new season looks and all that, it’s fun to watch the colourful world of fashion whiz by. But don’t ever let anymore dictate to you what you can and can’t wear. Your style and expression of that are as unique as you are. So honour that.

That’s the biggest rule breaker move out there, I think. (more…)

Aussie Curves: Resort

Resort is one of those themes that is pretty darn open to interpretation. A quick Google of Resort Fashion for 2014 shows everything from unstructured, sheer, deep v-neck dresses to monochrome, pointed shoulder, crisp over jackets. It’s like free range something you would wear on holiday. Or if you live in Queensland, like me, on the weekend. You’re jealous, I know you are. Haha.

RESORT. Resort wear. It kind of makes me think of George Costanza’s Dad in Seinfeld. Socks with sandals over, chinos pulled up to the ribcage and print Hawaiian shirts. Or J-Lo’s deep plunge fern dress with loads of bronzer and gold strappy heels. What to do, what to do. I laid out a few options and decided that whatever I picked up first would be the one. My resort post. Resort summer 2013/2014. And here it is… (more…)

Aussie Curves: Maxi Skirt

I have a funny story about maxi skirts actually. From my misspent youth that was absolutely not misspent. I had this mermaid hemmed, brown velour maxi skirt. It was divine. It was ridiculous really when I think about it. I wore it with ADIDAS t-shirts or loose, lightweight singlets, crazy hair and flip-flops. It hung low on my hips and gave a peek of tanned skin, often with ties to a ridiculously too small bikini hanging out the sides. I was a beach bum to the last.

One day, in my beach bum finery, I had to drive into Brisbane to collect a friend from the train station. As I stepped onto the escalator I KNEW I was in trouble. I felt the skirt grab in the steps. My mind immediately flashed to my tiny underwear as the skirt began to drag into the steps. I was too far from the emergency stop and on my own so there was no one to run for it. Uh oh!! I held the majority of the skirt firmly in my hands hoping to prevent it being sucked in. The end was near and I knew, if I don’t get this skirt out of these steps, I’m going to be skirt-less in the middle of a train station. Teeny tiny bottoms on display.

Shit. Shiiiiiiiit!

And yet, the entire time, I was trying to look all casual cool. Attempting to not display the panic at being sucked skirt-less into an escalator. I would not embarrass myself by yelling out for help. I would manage. I would make it through in a vain attempt at elegance and whimsical aloofness. I had less than a metre to go and the steps ahead of me where beginning to collapse. It was now or never. I had to either step out of my skirt and hope I could remove it OR give it an almighty tug and risk face-planting…

I chose the latter. I braced myself, the skirt and gave it a two-handed tug throwing myself into the side-rail as my skirt tore and released… The remaining steps collapsed in on themselves and I stepped confidently off the escalator. Heart racing. Skirt almost entirely intact. Underwear still on the inside. I strutted to my friends platform, grabbed them and streaked {stormed?} back out. ย Taking the stairs, of course.

Moral of the story?ย Don’t go to train stations. HA.ย  (more…)
