Welcome friends and meet the turkey burger. Simple and all kinds of wonderful. I’m happy to be finally introducing you. Hubby’ pretty happy too given I told him THREE weeks ago I was making them to grab some photos for the blog. They eventuated just last night. Bad wifey. Very. Bad. Wifey. What can I say, I love to cook until I HAVE to cook. Rebel.
Anywaaaaay, these simple burger patties are great for baking, bbq’ing or anything in between. The turkey is kept moist by the tomato and shallots {and speedy cooking time}. And short version, they are a win. Go heavy with the salt, pepper and herbs, the turkey just seems to soak it up. Enjoy of hearty buns like we did or with steamed veggies for the lighter option. They also work well in replacing the smaller meatballs in my simple meatball recipe. Just saying.
Are you ready to make them then? Let’s do this thing…
YOU’LL NEED
The patties:
1/4 cup sliced shallots
1 tbsp garlic
1 cup sliced semi dried tomatoes {drained}
Basil, parsley or oregano to taste {I like LOTS}
1 large egg
salt & pepper to taste
1kg uncooked ground turkey breast
To serve:
Washed Cos lettuce
Sliced Roma Tomatoes
At least 6 buns, toasted and wonderful
Mayonnaise {the thicker the better!}
THEN DO THIS
- Combine the pattie ingredients into a bowl and combine with your hands, if too wet add a small amount of breadcrumbs
- Split into 6 patties and refrigerate until required {makes them yummier, I think!}
- Cook them {I bakes ours for 30 minutes in a moderate oven the are great on a BBQ etc as well}. They cook pretty fast, watch that.
- Serve hot on the buns with the salad stuff and lashings of mayo. SO GOOD.
So enjoy them folks. It works with chicken mince too. It’s easy and light on and nothing like the heaviness of beef. I’ve got the whole hover pin button thing happening, so save them to your boards for later. Worth keeping, especially for those not in summer at the moment. You’re going to want this one come bbq season. Local friends, start now, before summer fades.
Yum yum.

Mmmmm… these look so yummy! Trouble with making 6 patties is that my fiance and I will eat them all… lol. Well, him more than me nowadays haha.
I’m so sick of beef, I think I’ll make these soon!
Make what you need, roll the rest into little balls and call them protein snacks. Haha. But seriously, it’ll happen, Kel ate three and an extra patty. I was like dude what the heck?
It must be a man thing… hahaha. I told my fiance about your protein ball idea and his reaction was quite funny as he’s always talking about eating more protein and how much he’s lifting at the gym lol! He said it was a brilliant idea. Win!
Even though I cook for the two of us, I often over prepare this sort of thing for just that reason. Glad the Hubby is happy!
Excellent use of the word “eventuated”. Is that a thing? It should be a thing.
Haha. I don’t know. Eventuate is a thing. Not sure if eventuated is. I’ve never been that great at this sort of thing, obviously. SUGER. 😉
Your food photography is getting better I think! Looks great! I wonder if I could make something like this with mince other than beef and hubby would notice the taste difference? lol.
I use any of the minces with this same recipe with no problem. It might just need a little breadcrumb or something to dry it out if it gets too wet. Easy peasy.
Do you think you could use the same patty ingredients (perhaps minus the egg) to make a meat mixture and then serve it with the tomato and a bit of mayo in the lettuce leaves like san choy bow? It looks and sounds delish, I’m just trying to cut out breads etc while keeping life interesting ha
Yeah absolutely. That’s how I make most of my meat patties. I hardly ever use the egg. But they do help to bind it a little. Just don’t be flipping them all the time if you don’t use it {Kelvin!! Ha}.
Yummmmm I love turkey patties I have my own special recipe too and they are absolutely moorish. Lets just say there is whole grain mustard, spinach and cheese involved. I’ll definitely being giving yours a whirl. I’m hungry now.
Oh YUM! I was saying that I wish I had feta to add to these. Cheese is the best. Sigh. I’m very much team cheese. 😉
I’m pretty sure if I could give up cheese I’d be a super model. Just saying… lol
Ahhh, I won’t even imagine. Cheese forever!
