It’s been all about the bikini or the fatkini in the last year or two. And I love them, I think every single day you WANT to wear a bikini you should. But that said, I’m pretty much always team plus size tankini when it comes to being active in the water. If there’s one thing we know about me, it’s that I’m a water baby.
And the second thing is that I have a long torso. Okay, so maybe you didn’t know that but it’s true. And a long torso means one piece swimsuits can be problematic. By that I mean they either drag my boobs to my waist or give me a permanent wedgie.
I’m sure I’m not alone in this struggle. Hands up if this is you too? What I used to do with one pieces was ‘size up’ and order the size above what I would normally wear. This is not always a successful move and when you wear a size 22/24, sometimes that just isn’t an option!
Enter, the plus size tankini!
Freedom for my boobs and butt by way of chopping my swimsuit in half. Yeeeesssss. Plus I still get the coverage I want when spending long days in the sun, the security being tucked away for frolicking and all that jazz. For me, a tankini works.

Plus, size swimwear has come a looooong way. A long way. And there are lots of options out there for cute posing and poolside glam. I love that! That wasn’t something we had a lot of options with. BUT, what if you’re trying to swim in the ocean or pool, in a creek, dam or paddling pool. Then what? Where are the suits that are cute AND functional?
And before we start, I wanted to share this post about my experience with swimwear and some advice my Mum gave me once. A lifelong beach lover, I never saw her in anything more than togs and a sheer throw or sarong all summer my entire life. Take a tip from the master. Haha.
