Welcome back, ladies and gentleman. Here we are, and it’s already the end of January. Some fashion bloggers had their first outfit posts live on New Years Day. I envy those people; I used to be organised like them. Ahhh, the good old days. But enough of that lamenting the good old days, let’s get reacquainted.
How are you!? How is 2017 treating you so far?
I’m doing well if I’m honest, coming down from this blah feeling I had in 2016 took some time. But I’ve bounced back well with some sunshine and lots of visits to the beach. I took the time to focus on what the heck I needed to let go of moving into 2017 and what it is I wanted out of this year.
It has gone a long way to helping me feel less like my life is stuck in a rut.So that’s good news. Already I feel able to write, to be busy without anxiety and to create. If you haven’t done an exercise like that, I recommend doing one now. Complete 2016 and create a plan for 2017.
As part of that, I selected a word for the year, and I chose FULL. Which probably needs some explaining but I’m not in the mood to do so. Haha. Maybe another day. This post is already pretty heavy update going for an outfit post.
Back to getting into 2017, I even found myself dealing with the conversations regarding in inauguration okay. Which is a nice change from the state of disbelief and general WTF’ing I was doing before, don’t you think?
I find it hard to express why it’s impacted me as much as it has, but it did. I’m sure I’m not the only one. But onwards we march, and for plenty of us, that means literally. There’s something inherently optimistic in the air, and I’m going to run with it.
So what’s the outfit?
Well, it’s just a simple summer dress, tucked into my trusty 17 Sundays denim skirt (if you ever find one of these for sale or if they restock, get yourself one, so good) with sneakers. A very summer me outfit. Casual and comfortable has been the order of the day, I’m not sure if you heard, but Queensland has been kicking our ASS heat wise lately. It hurts. Send iced beverages and air con repair men.
I’m not sure if you heard, but Queensland has been kicking our ASS heat wise lately. It hurts. Send iced beverages and air con repair men. It’s been a wee bit unbearable. Even steadfast, born and bred Queenslanders like me, used to weathering the storm, have been wilting and threatening to perish.
But don’t worry too much, I caught a break in the weather and we shot some photos. So brace yourself for the blog to be back to its regular programming. I’m planning to do right by the blog in 2017, so watch this space! And if you made it this far (well done, firstly) make sure you let me know how your summer has been so far.

Wearing Avella for BigW Dress (as top – sold out online, try this or in store), 17 Sundays Denim Skirt (sold out) and Converse Sneakers.
And yeah, did you notice? Undone shoelace. I’m all over this details thing. Gosh.

Work outfits, work style, during the summer is harder than my everyday summer style, and special occasion combined. There’s usually some form of dress code, there’s always an expectation and it’s hot. Sometimes hotter than others, depending on whether you are in or out of the air con. So there’s all that. Plus, you’d rather be at the beach. Or I would anyway.
I find that by having a few key go-to pieces I get through most weeks with no issue. My work wardrobe is mostly black and white. Some colour thrown in on random days. Then I add a wow items like this duster now and again, and you’re in the work style game.
There’s something about the print and proportions of the jacket, the mixed up hem of the skirt and the texture of the top make this outfit interesting. The red shoes, great for a day when you’re more in the office than out, just add something extra. I like to keep my hair, makeup and jewellery simple for work because I’m lazy mostly. I’d rather sleep in those few extra minutes than apply more time. So a slick of gloss will always brighten the look .
I mentioned before that my work wardrobe is predominantly black and white and I do this for a reason. I find it much easier to mix and match from clothing in the same colour family. Navy is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but do you know how many times over the years I’ve accidentally matched a black skirt with a navy blazer thinking they were a set? LOTS. Best spare yourself the trouble.

Sorry team, all items are from my wardrobe and have sold out.

As the storm clouds rolled in yesterday afternoon, I loaded my tired self into the car, Mr Suger and the camera by my side. After a quick change when I arrived home from work we planned to grab some photos on our way out. It was my second attempt to get photos of this jacket from Nyata that was sent as a thank you for my post a while ago featuring their range.
This look is half work styled outfit and half textured monochrome outfit thanks to the detail in the shirt and skirt. I’d worn the skirt earlier and decided that this jacket would be the perfect thing to spice things up. The crop design and sequin panel across the shoulders added some glam to the whole thing. Made it interesting, you know? So I tucked in the shirt, pulled on some booties to replace my sensible work heel and off we went.
Have I mentioned lately that I can’t wait for summer? Working until 5pm makes it ridiculously hard for us to grab outfit photos, and lately weekends have been a blur… Do you ever get so busy you don’t have ten minutes to spare on your way somewhere? Well, that has been us for the past few months. Stretched thin. Busy. But with the biggest wedding season of our lives behind us (we attended five this year!) we are ready to rest, recoup and welcome the long afternoons that summer brings.
We could probably be talked into an afternoon sesh at the pub too, just quietly. What about you?
