Weekend shapeless layers

Weekend shapeless layers

I found this button up sheer maxi dress in my wardrobe clean up a while ago. When I first picked it up from Yours Clothing I wore it more like a sleeveless vest, but since it reappeared it’s been all top, all the time. The good news is that they have released it again lately, so it’s for sale on the site now. I know! That never happens with my wardrobe finds.

It’s hard to tell in these photos but it’s actually pretty sheer. Layering it over jeans or pencil skirts has become a bit of a thing. I love the shapeless, drape of it which combines perfectly with leaving it unbuttoned revealing a peek of my stomach. So fun. This really is one of those items that will work really hard in your wardrobe, worth a look.

The Mr and I are a little out of practice with the whole outfits photo thing. Eeeek! Must get back in the habit of such things, this was awkward, took ages and it’s like Kel forgot how to use my camera. Gosh. But anyway, done is better than perfect, so there it is.

Wearing Yours Clothing Maxi, 17 Sundays new season Antifit jeans (on sale!) and City Chic heels (sold out, try these).

I photographed this outfit as part of the What Rules challenge being hosted for Jess and Elyse on Instagram. The ladies wanted a challenge and couldn’t find a fashion on that worked for them, so they made their own! It’s an inclusive community of women, so get over there and join in if you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone and ditch the rules for dressing your body!

Not dressing for my shape is something I love doing, so I had to jump on board day one of the #whatruleschallenge with @j1987t & @ellecurve and share my look. • Dressing for your shape is one of those rules that everyone believes in. After all, isn’t flattering the aim? But when I hear flattering, I hear appear thinner or more like what society says is right for my body. • But there’s a problem with that; my body has never been right. Too tall, too fat, too big in the shoulders for a girl, and on and on it goes. No amount of flattering or dressing for my shape would change the body I have. And it won’t change yours either. • So, why not dress because it’s fun, or interesting, or because you like it? Why not give that a try and forget the rules. In the end, the only person who matters is you. #sugersoutfit #psblogger

Getting dressed, going out

Getting dressed, going out

Some days you just have to get up, put on some face, get dressed up and go out on the town. This weekend we did exactly that (in a different outfit, which I forgot to get photos of in all my rushing around). So here’s one I prepared earlier. All black. All the boots goodness. Can’t beat THAT.

I’ve had this a-line turtleneck from Yours Clothing for a while now and hadn’t ever worn it. It turns out having something wrapped around my neck, not something I enjoy, in clothing. Which sounds dirtier than I intended it to be. My bad. There’s a variance in the fabric that in person looks like a sheer stripe which I love. I looked around for something similar but there wasn’t much to be found. Let me know if you’ve seen something and I’ll add a link.

Layering it over a simple black pencil skirt, mine is from 17 Sundays’ BASIC range. The addition of my heeled boots added warmth and simple chic effort that heels wouldn’t have been able to deliver. And let’s face it, if you’re going out for dinner, then out afterwards, you want comfy but cool. All I need is a jacket for between the car and venues and I’m set. Got to love being a Queenslander. Haha.

Layered Layers

Layered Layers

I’m currently obsessed with Australian Margaret Zhang. You follow her blog or Instagram right? Well heck, if not, get your butt over there. Her images and the way she layers clothing in such unique, fresh ways is something I can’t get enough of. I’m a stalker of her feed, short version, and it’s starting to seep into the way I get dressed.

So much so I wore underwear as a top.

Seriously. It happened, I wore this new City Chic Lingerie corset because I’d committed to some Instagram photos for the brand and wanted to give it a whirl before sharing. You know, in case it sucked to wear and I hated it or something. The short version is it didn’t suck and after wearing it a little while I felt confident enough to undo a few buttons of my Yours Clothing sheer maxi… And hey presto an underwear as outerwear outfit was born.

You can blame it on Margaret. Seriously. Haha. But in the end it’s slouch on a whole other level. The sheer layers reminded me of Liv and her killer ability to rock sheer with coloured bras. The pants from 17 Sundays have always called to me for the way they layer so beautifully, easy to wear and yet so cool (and apparently sold out, sorry team).

This is my winter style this year. Easy layers, lots of monochrome. Sleeveless if I want… Luckily I’m a Queenslander. And underwear as a top apparently. What can I say, sometimes you have to try something new. And I’m glad I did. Got to get out of your comfort zone sometimes right? Life’s too short.

Weekend Textured Monochrome

Weekend Textured Monochrome

Mr Suger leaned in, moving forward to run the scratchy palm of his hand along the sleeve of my top (dress). There’s so many different things to touch, he said grinning like a goof-ball. And that my friends is when I knew this post was to be about texture, mixing textures and how monochrome needn’t be boring.

First can we talk about this Yours Clothing skirt? Sure we can, this is my blog and I do what I want. Haha. It has this great waffle texture that is gorgeous and a fullness to it that I love. It’s a shape I hadn’t planned incorporating so heavily into my wardrobe, but after a couple of weddings the style has really grabbed me.

With the skirt in play, I added the jacket, also sent to my by Yours Clothing. A easy to wear, pleather jacket that is light enough to throw on but that will keep me warm when my home town does it’s thing and tries to freeze me. The textured quilting on the jacket is everything. Textured layer two, added.

To top it off and finish the oh-so-touchable combo, I added the never fails me, shine bright dress from Harlow Australia. One of the first items I ever received from the brands and easily my favourites. Everyone that knows me has seen me in this dress for occasions from date night all the way through to my cousin’s hens party.

Touchable, super sexy and comfortable enough to trick your brain into thinking you’re wearing a t-shirt. Win. Triple win. Sorry you can’t buy it any more, maybe keep an eye out online for one second hand. You won’t regret it.

When it comes to texture the layers are interesting, something soft against something shiny, against something course to the touch. It’s fun. It adds interest where the simple, untextured versions of the items would’ve been good, but all together now, they’re great. Give it a try. I’m sure you’ll find you’ll love it too. Already a texture pro? Give me your best tip.

The triumphant return of the sneaker

The triumphant return of the sneaker

I’m okay with heels. Happy to wear them and often do but when the ‘powers that be’ said the humble sneaker was making a comeback in a big way I got a wee bit excited. Adding a sneaker to anything just makes it more relaxed, casual and cool. The more retro, the better. The more monochrome, the even better-er.

And do you know what goes perfectly with a great pair of sneakers? Other than everything. One of my favourite trends ever, sports luxe or just plain old sporty. It can be something obvious like this tank (this tunic as seen here) or is can be as subtle as a ribbed cuff on a jumper. Sneakers love sporty styling.

I found this skirt in the City Chic DFO store in Brisbane. It’s the perfect length and cut for me, and I can see it getting a lot of use in a number of ways in the future. I mean black denim acid wash, what is not to love? The contrast of the almost formal cut of the skirt with a casual (but hello structured) material makes me a happy girl indeed. It’s almost like I could wear this for work with a killer blouse and pointy shoes. You’re feeling me, right?

Until then, I’m going to bounce so you can check out the photos taken on the basketball court. Hence, the bounce thing. Sigh. Yes. That was Dad joke level lame. I’m not sorry; I’d do it again. Enjoy!

Farewell Floral Bomber

Farewell Floral Bomber

Em from Geek Chic Girl loaned me this jacket back at the “Queensland Plus-Size Blogger” meet up on the Gold Coast. She hadn’t had much luck styling it, and I was gleefully rubbing my hands together at the opportunity. Home it came with me for months, and I wore it often. So often in fact I thought I’d better get it back to her before I wore that poor jacket to death.

The second last time I wore it was to grab these photos for Yours Clothing (top) and 17 Sundays (leggings). New items that had arrived that didn’t have pictures and yet NEEDED to be introduced to you fine people. Originally I’d planned to wear my white jacket. This one just seemed to be a better choice. Floral and sporty looks together? Uh huh honey.

Don’t you think? The pop of the orange is picked up in both items, and they work together well. Who can resist some large “Sporty Spice” letters on their boobs? Not meeeee! Even if I once again ordered at least a size too big in the shirt (same story as the jumpsuit, I’m afraid) and it makes it a wee bit too “blousey” for my liking. The length was my main motivator; I wanted something I could wear over these killer leggings.

Leggings that are squishing me like a sausage I’m afraid. There was a sizing issue that the team has rectified for future releases. So after a wee bit of a squish, I found that the XL was wearable. I’ a pretty standard size 22 so that should give you some idea. Size up ladies. Way up. That’s good news for our not so plus friends though, the small will be right up your alley. Check them out.

I know some creepers in the supermarket car park where we took these photos were checking them out… They heckled us the entire time we snapped these photos, even with Madame Rouge playing traffic bouncer and then followed us towards the car park when we left. Hubby laughed at the whole thing. Some protector of my virtue he turned out to be.

So there you go, behind the scenes with this fearless blog trio. It’s not overly eventful; it just involves some colourful language and flipping the bird. HA.
