Long term lover of 17 Sundays reporting for duty! And if I ever wear tights or stockings, Sonsee are my brand. So when the two powerhouses decided to join forces and give you a chance to WIN an entire outfit (my dress, bomber and tights!) for their Winter Giveaway, I knew I wanted in. Because if I know you guys, and I feel like I do, I know you LOVE giveaways.
I mean, who wouldn’t want this dress/bomber/tights combo?
For those looking for sizing advice, I’m sitting around a 24 at the moment. I’m wearing the 22 in the floral bomber and even with my broad shoulders, it fits well. It is snug when I zip it up over things, it kind of gets a cropped look to it. But I don’t zip jackets like this often, so I’d rather it was a little snug, rather than the other way. Make sense?
I’m wearing the 26 in the floral wedge dress. Now, the ladies who fit the larger side of things, don’t panic. It’s not about fit, even though the material has no stretch (a little give, but no stretch). As you can see from the photos there is loads of room in there. The length is good, even with the split in the back, so I’m glad I have the larger size even if it wasn’t necessary.
But wait, there’s more!
Short ladies or if you’re borderline on a size, you won’t need to size up, in my opinion, but as with most of the dresses in this style, if you’re big in the backside, make sure you check the sizing chart, unless you can get it down over, you’re never going to get into the largest part of the dress. Got it? Good.
Now, the tights. So I’m a pretty standard 24 and I’m 179cm tall. So, I need a decent amount of room in tights. I’m wearing the Opaque 100 denier full tights in black, in size Stunning (22/24). The short version is that the whole point of these tights is that it gives us ladies with more belly and width at our waist, thighs and legs, more room for good coverage. It’s got some magic stretch going on in there so this style is such a win! Easy to wear and comfortable.

This post is about Winter Style. How, right? This is me. I’m a summer kid, born and bred. Living for long days at the beach, sand between my toes and the salty ocean air on my skin. I even love things like the sting of too much sun and the crashing relief of an afternoon storm. Such a summer kid.
But this year something changed. When it got to March and temperatures were still soaring, I’d had enough. I was ready for the cooler weather, ready for a change. And by May, I got my wish. As usual, patience, teaching me a lesson at every turn. It was time to pull out the winter gear and let’s face it, this is about as winter as it gets around here.
This week was Show Week in my town and it’s sort of a marker in the year for when things start to get cold. Do you do that? I know that by my birthday in March nights will start to be cooler and by ANZAC day mornings will be crisp. But for sure, by the time the Show rolls around, the weather will have changed.
Circle of life or something like that.
Anyway, the weather is cooler and I’m all for it. I picked up some new ankle boots at the City Chic sale (LOVE) and I’m ready to stomp my way into Winter. This grey is perfection, don’t you think? Especially paired with the black opaques and speckled dress. Thanks to friend and photographer Bambi Gosbell for the photos. I can’t wait to work with Bambi more often on the blog. It’s not that Mr Suger has been retired, more that he is in dispose. Haha.
Wearing 17 Sundays Nep Cocoon Dress, Sonsee Woman Opaque Tights and City Chic Emma Ankle Boots.
Those shopping this dress, I’m wearing the XL and am a size 24 and 178cm. I genuinely think my normal size (L/22) may have been too short on this occasion. Perfect for tights, but not when I wasn’t wearing them. That said, not everyone is as tall as me and with room to move in this one, you really could go either way size-wise without ruining the fit of the dress.
In the Emma ankle boots I am wearing size 42. As a wide 11 normally, these are a great fit. That said, there is not a lot of room around the ankle in these, so if that’s a wider part of your leg, consider a size up and some fluffier socks. The heel is a great height and feels really sturdy. It’s a deceptive height though, and after sneakers all summer long, it took me a minute to find my feet in them, but when I did, they are wear all day comfortable.
I don’t know about you but finding plus size stockings I like, that fit me well and don’t cost the earth is something that is damn near impossible. Yet, owning a great pair of stockings or tights can be such a godsend to a girl’s winter wardrobe. Summer dresses get a winter update, short skirts stay in play for longer and everything just looks that little bit more classy with a pair of sheer stockings.
It has taken me 3 months to build this post. THREE MONTHS. Not because it’s content-heavy or anything but because it took me that long to track down a variety of brands that were well-reviewed online. And here they are, from affordable to special occasion, all tried and tested by women online and reviewed positively more often than not. Sure it might still be a little hit and miss, but I’m hoping it improves your odds of a hit. Happy shopping!
Where to buy plus size stockings and tights
We love colours
This brand first burst into my awareness when first Dani then Liv raved about the brand. They were one of the first places to not only sell plus size stockings, leggings or tights but they did it in every colour under the sun, some with patterns, fishnets..! EVERYTHING. A wide range of everything hosiery this is a one-stop-shop for all things tights and stockings. Plus dance clothes! And best of all, quality has been reviewed as REALLY good. Durable and without a lot of that bagginess some tights are prone to. Worth a look! Need more convincing? They carry up to a 8XL in their range, so they have a wide range of sizes covered too.
The selection is sometimes limited for the plus-size customer, but Modcloth offers a selection of tights, stockings and cute as heck socks to add to your next outfit. I came across this brand when they had their Halloweend stock out, and despite the fact that it will surely be a billion degrees here by Halloween, was tempted to get one of each. Now, if only I wasn’t a size 24 woman who almost six foot tall. Haha. When I say they do plus, the sizing is limited. Small fats only, really.
We know how that woman is, right?! Meagan Kerr, fellow blogger and lover of tights. She’s wearing Snag Tights, and you can see her, and others doing just that on their website. The featured image for this post is also from the Snag tights website, so you can see they do all sorts of things from tights, stockings, anti-chafe pants, footless tights, bike pants… all the things. And the best news EVER? They stock size 4 to 36. Hats off to them and their killer range. Probably the best place to start if like me, you’re at the top end of the size scale for most other ‘plus’ brands.
In previous years, I haven’t noticed a large array of stockings, tights yes, but no stockings. This year, they are knocking our socks off {Was that A PUN!?} with a huge range of not only sheer and opaque stockings but funky suspender look and patterned ones too. Today I checked in with some of the girls and the few who had ordered them {most had no need having stocked up at City Chic, haha} loved them! Especially the taller ladies who reported good length. For my work style stockings, I think I’ll be checking these out in the near future.

Featuring a range of sizes and a good product range this newly launched range is a must for those looking for high quality made plus size stockings and tights with classic lines and nice wide upper thigh and waist measurements. After checking out the site I was most excited about the fit of the waistband, I mean how many of us spend half our life in stockings dealing with a too tight or rolling down waistband!? Or WORSE, the thigh is so tight you’re doing the whole sausage think. Well, these have been specifically engineered to avoid that. WIN.
And that’s everything! I’m sure there are more brands out there so make sure you let me know if you’ve had a great experience buying plus size stockings, leggings or tights. Next time I’m looking forward to sharing a post about where to buy plus size knits. Everything from dresses to jumpers and back again. After all Aussies {and fellow southern hemisphere friends}, ’tis the season! Right!?
