Have you ever been really, truly excited about something? So excited that it consumes your free time, it takes so much work and yet you don’t bat an eyelid at doing it? That’s what this has been for me. Things have gone by the wayside. I’ve been a bad blogger here. I miss my Suger Coat It space and blogging here. But she will be here when I get back. I hope you will be too.
I am posting this here because not everyone supports a dream, an idea, or a plan when you have one. I’m asking you to back mine. Again. I’d love your support. I am launching something I’ve been working on for a while now. Well, just over a month actually. Time flies when you’re having fun and all that. Haha. The “Leave Home Blog” is a blog about leaving home. What to do, how to do it and how to not suck at it and end up bloated (from all the salt, let’s face it), broke and back in your parent’s house.
It started as an idea for content here. A post series. An idea to be developed and then it became a much bigger idea. On the “Leave Home Blog” we will talk about money and budgeting, people skills, cooking and food, life skills, budget travel and news and reviews. The first post I wrote for the blog in full was ‘How to Boil an Egg’ because let’s face it, the basics are where it’s at. Get the foundation right and life builds from there.
But it’s not all about the basics.
We talk about managing your new living environments, budgeting for things you want to avoid credit card and other consumer debt and how to lodge an insurance claim when things go wrong. It’s about answering those questions you have when you first leave home and just don’t ask. “Leave Home Blog” is going to be the older brother or sister you WISH you had.
“Leave Home Blog” will be aimed at those leaving home for the first time, whether they are heading to university, higher education or to their first post-school job. It’s also for their parents and those of us who are a little bit shit at life. Anyone who could use a helping hand getting life on track.
Fingers crossed for me would you. Launch day is Monday and I’m nervous as hell!
Bloggers, your submissions are welcome. Shoot me an email at leavehomeblog@gmail.com and we’ll talk.
Hi! I’m Melissa Walker Horn. Around here, they call me Suger. I’m the Chief Blogger and doer of all the things here at Suger Coat It. Blogging since 1901; I love a casual ootd, taking photos, and writing about things that irk or inspire me. I love wine and cheese, long days at the beach and spending time with my family. I make stuff for the internet over at Chalkboard Digital. You know, living the sweet life.
I’ve been busy too. which is why I am only just commenting now 😛 I haven’t had a chance to catch up on your blogs till now. I have just clicked on the link for your new blog and the layout immediately hit me! its so clean, so edgy, sooooooooo sexy!!! a cousin of mine in the UK is in her second year at Uni, her first year of living in accommodation where meals and money aren’t provided for her! so it’ll be a great blog to recommend for her, especially as she lived with us for a year and misses the Aussie/Kiwi lifestyle and humour! so thank you for sharing, as always!
Haha. Well better late than never they say. And really, you’re not that late, it’s under two weeks old even now.
Woohoo. Thanks! I’m really happy with how it worked out. I’m bringing in a professional to do some tweaking now but I’m glad you love it.
Thank you for sharing the blog, I’m hoping it helps out your cousin in her move. Tell her to please email if she has any questions. I’m sure she won’t be the only one to have them.
This has nothing to do with anything, but I just tried to play the word “suger” on words with friends and it said it wasn’t a valid word and I was like “whaaaaaat?” You’re in my head Suger. You’re in my head…
Haha. Stupid Words with Friends, tell them to get with the program. 😉
So excited for you, this is SO you. You are going to nail this so hard. Cannot wait to check it out! I will try and dream up a post for you, I’d love to help out in any way. Probably have to wait until after Japan though. I’m thinking a post about living in a share house. Let’s face it, I’m still there so I know a thing or two haha Woo! Congratulations you!! xx
Thank you! I was saying over the weekend, it’s really an extension of telling my younger brother and sister what to do. It’s perfect for me. Haha.
And you’re not the only one, we all have areas we fall down in. Mine are washing my car (stupid water smudges) and budgeting (stupid heads). And others, but they are my key ones. Le sigh.
Super excited by this! While I’ve lived away from home many times, its always great to find new tips and tricks. Since moving to Melbourne, this is the most money i’ve had to pay for rent, so budgeting has been a must!
Thank you Nat! There should be some great tips for budgeting. Hopefully we can help.
Can’t wait to see it live 🙂
Thank you! Me too. Eeeeep.
