Beautiful on the outside.

You are beautiful, on the outside where it counts

Yes I’m talking to you. No I’m not joking. Yes you are beautiful. Of course you are. Are you mad!? I get sick of people saying that inner beauty matters {sure it DOES, but hang in there} over outer beauty. Being a good person is important. Having principles and standards matters. But the crazy part about that whole thing is that you ARE beautiful on the outside. You are. Who told you that you weren’t?

No really, think about it?

And really, are those people anyone you should be listening too? Take a minute and think of a sweet little girl, she’s young and just finding her way in the world. She asks you if she’s beautiful. Without even knowing what she looks like how do you respond? You’d say that yes, of course she is. hopefully you’d tell her some other things she is too to balance the whole thing out but of course you’d say she’s beautiful.

WHY?

Because all little girls are.

So then if you think about it, when can all stop driving ourselves nuts over being beautiful because we already are. ALL of us. And that makes none of us special for being beautiful. No ranking, no ifs, buts or maybes. Blanket coverage. Level playing field, let’s call the whole thing off. WE could all use a little less crazy, right? I know for sure I could do with a little less crazy.

So get out there you gorgeous thing you. Let’s change the world.

  1. Well of course I’m beautiful. Always have been. Shiny hair, bright eyes, big smile….what more does a girl need?

      Haha. Indeed.

  2. It IS what’s on the inside that matters. Without the beautiful inside, the outside just never looks as good. x

      Thaaaanks Charlene.

  5. Watching my daughter has shown me that self love is there from the start. I love my daughters confidence. I love that when she is put in a outfit she knows is nice, she will admire herself in the mirror and declare that she is ‘Verwy Pweety’. She then runs to her Dad so she can hear him compliment her too. I hope she always declares herself very pretty and continues to see her own beauty. She has taught me to do the same.

It really is, then it gets beaten out of us as vanity. It’s so wrong, I think. Sure it’s great to be humble but to value yourself highly can only lead to you taking care of yourself, expecting good things for yourself and having high standards about the company you keep etc.

  6. Personally what I find beautiful is the way in which someone carries themselves over their size/colour/what they’re wearing. That outer beauty is someone who can be proud of who they are, who smiles at others because they have so much inner happiness they need to share it, the kindness you find in their eyes. Inner beauty does show on the outside, and I believe everyone starts life beautiful. I don’t feel like it is possible to be “ugly” until you’re an adult, well aware and in better control of your actions, and actions that are deliberately mean or cruel or nasty. Those actions chip away at your inner beauty and it’s ability to shine through on the outside.

I love this. A great thought, amazing.

  7. Sometimes it really feels like you’re talking about me at just the right time. I’ve been feeling blue because I’ve gotten a lot of negative feedback from strangers about my new fashion blog and it has me questioning if I’m as beautiful as I’ve been feeling lately. Society can really make you question yourself, but what gives anyone the right to make you question yourself or the way you look? Way to go, Suger! Another wonderful post.

Thank you Erin. I’m glad this post was here for you when you needed it, maybe it was just for you. I’ve had this one half written in draft for weeks and finally finished it.
