Facial Hair – Yay or Nay?

Let Moustache season BEGIN.
A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the Movember launch in Brisbane. Oh course I went! Who wouldn’t. Hayley and I piled into my car and crossed our fingers are we headed into the city. The aside here is that I’m from Gympie and Hayley has recently moved from Maryborough, so we had NO IDEA.
We arrived a little late {after taking a few laps looking for a park before spotting the MASSIVE parking sign}. We were greeted warmly at the door, given tankards {not really, they were just big glasses} of wine and told to head upside, the speeches had started.
We saw the ads. We heard the band. The speakers introduced us to the new campaign and spoke briefly about the charities etc who are involved. I also dropped and/or bumped my wine glass from my own hand at least THREE times during the speaking. We giggled inappropriately. And then, it was done.
Now Movember I can get behind. Moustache’s not so much. It’s an ongoing battle in our household. Facial hair, no facial hair. Spiky and tidy or messy and not spiky. Shave or trim!? I usually lose. It’s hubby’s face after all. And it’s not like I’d let him tell me how to wear my hair. So yes, touchy subject. Real line in the sand stuff!
BUT you know what? Anything that brings attentions to Men’s health issues {both physical and mental} is a good and worthwhile thing in my books. So I’ll suck it up.
Take one for the team. And grin and bare it as my Hubby turns into a total bushman. Cultivated and elegant moustaches he has not. Check out the World Moustache championship photo search – linked below – for some AWESOME mo examples!

  1. I actually dont mind a bit of facial hair – some manly, stubbly, i-havent-shaved-for-a-week-cos-i'm-a-MAN type stuff. I dont know about a Tom Selleck-esque moustache though… thats a bit sad really…

  2. I dont mind facial hair but I dont really like stubble and of course it entirely depends on the man. And like Amy said nothing Tom Selleck esqueKarlene

  3. Haha it was a great night :) As for the facial hair thing..no don't like it, on my husband anyway :P

  4. Me, I wouldn't go that's who! :( Kinda wish I did go now but oh well…sounded like fun.I'm not much into the facial hair myself. Certainly not beards and aside from supporting this worthy cause the only moustache I really like is the awesome 70s pornstar/chopper reid handle bar kind :P

  5. I am so glad I clicked the world moustache championships link!

  6. My hubby does this every year to support the cause, and while I'm all for it, I'm not a fan of the spike that it becomes. Give me a smooth shaven face any day!(Plus the fact that our Wedding Anniversary is in the middle of November so I have to put up with a half grown goatee or mo for that momentus occasion).Could also be the fact that my Dad is the only person I've ever known to have a beard, so when hubby grows one its a little weird… I have issues I know!

  7. Facial hair, yay. My husband looks weird clean-shaven (as he is now, in preparation for growing his mo). He really suits a trimmed goatee.

  8. Guv was clean shaven when we first met, at my request he grew a goatee. that was 12 years ago. he has shaven it off twice just to see what he'd look like without it. he literally shaved it the once and then let it immediately start to grow back.a couple of months ago [perhaps it's longer i really am not sure] Guv decided to grow a full beard – his face, his choice, i was interested to see what it looked like and it looks pretty bloody good and really suits him! he wants to grow it really long but his beard isn't cooperating! as for just mo's by themselves? ahhh no, definitely NO! apparently Guv used to have just a mo before he met me, I'm glad he lost it before he met me tho :-P~x~

  9. My (ex)hubby would mention growing a long beard like ZZ Top, I would say, okay, I'll pick up the divorce papers. Then we'd both laugh. He looked good with a week's worth of growth, maybe two, but that's it. I'd happily sponsor someone NOT to grow a Mo.

  10. We did this two years ago but I didn't like kissing him for a month! We decided to just donate to our friends who are joining instead :)

  11. Ok. Have a confession: I love facial hair on men! I LOVE it on holidays when hubby grows it out but he never wants a permanent beard :( Facial hair? It's a YAY from me. Good cause too!
