Today, it begins! #SugarFreeSuger

This is me. Taken a couple of weeks ago when week three of the Couch to 5km kicked my butt. Determined but questioning if I would EVER get there. Working from home, adjacent to my fridge is proving difficult. I graze, and not in a good way, all the time. I find it hard to motivate myself. I guess, if pushed, I would describe myself as sluggish. I am definitely tired. 
So I decided that it was time for something different. Drastic even. Something the Suger Dad {Haha. THAT doesn’t work} my Dad would approve of whole heartedly considering that he had given us the book over 6 months ago. We are going Sugar Free AND I joined the Bloggest Losers as well. The couch to 5km will continue as well, so I don’t go cookoo.
So today is day one. It started with eggs and a decaf coffee with regular milk. And can I tell you how much I adore regular milk to the skim sickly versions. Thank goodness for THAT. I’m a country girl after all, I feel like I’ve been betraying my roots for ages. I have my trusty SodaStream bottle* loaded with Soda Water as usual. And it begins. 
I am optimistic, confident, in some ways I am cocky. I don’t feel like we have a lot of sugar in our diet. They must be hidden in there somewhere. The book, Sweet Poison, talks about appetite control. And sometimes, I don’t believe I have any. I can eat a meal and still be hungry just after. There is a switch not being switched if you know what I mean. 
So there you go. Those are the rules. The entire Suger household is going Sugar Free. Well, Hubby is by default, he’s been told to eat his crap elsewhere if he insists on continuing. My sis is on board 100%. She started following the five simple rules about this time last last and dropped weight really quickly. Her issue was the hidden sugars in sauces etc. We do plan to introduce fruits etc back into our diets but not for the first couple of weeks.
I have asked Hubby & sis to grab a before photo when they get home. So, you know, we have something to compare to 12 weeks from now at the end of the Bloggest Loser. And I have something to look back at. Though, let’s face it, I have PLENTY of photos from outfit posts. Haha. I KNOW what I look like. 
Updates will be here and cooking pics etc will be on the Food Revolution blog. We hope to utilise the resources we have, the Thermomix and the yogurt maker to make anything that we miss terribly and replace it with dextrose. So there it is the plan.

  1. Yay!! Go you! Defiintely easiest when the whole family is involved! If you think you're slipping off the bandwagon- call me! Just think of what the sugar's doing to your body. :-)So proud of you. xo

Two things I thought of when reading this:Those grazing cravings are normal, so don't get down when you give in to them, especially because you're right smack bang in the middle of changing your eating habits anyways (your body habits are fighting you!). The way to get around this is to just never buy any junk. So there's never any junk to eat. Buy nuts and grains and fruit and healthy snacks, so that when you do graze, it isn't so bad.Also, I suppose it's your husband's perogative to eat his unhealthy snacks if he so chooses, but having them in the house is not going to help you when you crave. In my humble opinion, he should accept no junk food in the house, as a way to support YOU. If he wants to eat junk, he can eat it while at work, or at the pub, or wherever else he is outside of the house without you.

  5. I am a massive grazer and have been doing my absolute best to stay away from any unnecessary snacking by replacing it with a cup of tea and a drink of water!

  6. I agree with Daisy cups of herbal tea make you feel full and have no caffine and I'm pretty sure no sugar ?? Hmm now I'm not sure. I like the look of it. Keep an eye out for the headaches, I've heard the lack of sugar in the first few weeks can make them shocking xx

  7. hats off to you lovely lady. it is not easy. i know. my mouth is in a sugar spasm trying to tackle the same. i was told that even eating Special K was out of the question the other day. thinking of you. go the 5 rules!!

  10. That sounds like an awesome book to read, I've just signed up to do 12wbt so I'm hoping I can kick my own butt into shape – but maybe the no sugar thing would be good too!xx

  12. You're going to replace with Dextrose? You do realise that's a sugar? Anything in the "ose" family is a sugar. glucose, fructose, lactose, dextrose.Anyway, I wish you much luck, and few headaches. Stay well hydrated, get good amounts of sleep, and if the headaches become very severe eat just one (ONE!!) of those small sugar packets available hwere coffee is sold. Then get right back on track. I might just try this myself, but in a lesser way. I'll cut my chocolate intake, since that probably accounts for 80% of my sugar.

  13. I went sugar free a couple of weeks ago and so far so good! The withdrawals were the hardest during the first week but it does get easier!Good luck!

  14. Hi I just found your blog about following the fructose free diet. I converted my family of five on Nov 1 2011 and we have not looked back. I can honestly tell you that my children aged 10 and 12 politley refuse sugar laden food and treats because it tastes disgusting. We bake with dextrose and I lost 9kg to be sitting samck bang in the middle of my healthy weight range. I blogged about it recently. I ate a restaurant coleslaw recently and had the worst sugar headache. And previously I did not go a day without chocolate. The appetite control is what makes a huge difference, no desire to snack.Remember it is addictive, so don't give in to sugar for at least two months and then your tastes will prevent you ever again.
