Shoes baby..!

A friend and former employer who lives in Thailand and wears a size nine shoe {nine, right Amanda?}. She went into a store to buy some shoes. She would have been happy with one pair. They offered her the boxes to wear since her feet were so large. Ha. Imagine the look on those ladies faces if they had the opportunity to fit ME for shoes.
I wear an 11.
And it turns out that it is more common than I thought. Since declaring this on twitter and here a number of women have added, me too! My feet are not long, they are wide. Well, I guess they are kinda long. Compared to smaller feet, for sure. For years I squeezed into 10’s because a lot of ranges only stocked up to a 10, maybe a 10.5.

I could always get shoes though at Target and at Joanne Mercer. Bless them. I always managed to find what I wanted, one way or another. Though once I spent over $450 on boots. That was before Hubby. Post Hubby I looked at a pair for around $250 and Hubby told me not to be silly. That was a week’s mortgage. {HA. To go back to THAT sized mortgage}.

To this day I find the majority of my shoes at Target, Kmart and Big W. Family and friends keep their eyes peeled whenever they shop for a brand that stocks an eleven. And more and more you can find them as standard. Phew.

So. Shoes. Do you have lots or a few pairs?
Big foot or small? Let’s do a survey.

  1. I wear between a 10.5 and an 11, and so does my sister. It's so much more common than you think!! I buy from Nine West, Trenery, Witchery, Diana Ferrari (although not so much anymore), Sandler (even though it makes me feel like a granny) and Jane Lawrence. Please, you have to tell me where you got those black ruffle wedges – I have a serious thing for wedges at the moment!

  2. I thought I had average feet but I guess they're on the smaller-ish side. I'm usually a 7-8 depending on the make. I have quite a few pairs of shoes but there about 4 pairs that I wear the most. I LOVE shoes. I can't go past a shoe shop without looking. That being said, whilst I have a few pairs on the more expensive end of the scale I generally buy fairly cheap shoes. This is because I am very hard on my shoes what with all the dancing and drunken pilgrimages even the better quality shoes don't tend to last long so I prefer cheapies or brands on sale. But there always those special ones that you just HAVE to have ;)

  3. Ooooo. Claire, GREAT! Thanks for all the tips. I've never had any success locally with Nine West or Witchery, so assumed they didn't really release them. Looks like all the savvy 11 wearer's had purchased them already! The ruffle wedges are from Big W and were $15. I'm a total bargain hunter! ;)

  4. Sheri, TINY. ;) And I totally GET the ones you just can't walk past.

  5. Well, when I was young and LIVED in heels I wore an 8 or 9. Since living in the tropics and wearing flat shoes more, I now wear a 9 or 10.Darwin is sadly limited and I only have a choice of Betts, Kmart, Target or Big W. Or a surf shop for your Havaianas (which are the comfiest thongs I've EVER worn and are a staple part of the NT wardrobe). Honestly, it's one thing I miss about Adelaide – the variety of stores. My current favourite shoes I found at Betts. But I would still love some more variety. And I LOVE those ruffle wedges too – tell us, tell us!!

  6. I'm a size nine so average. I couldn't imagine not being able to find something to fit.Though me I'm a big comfort girl. I officially own NO heels and if I can go barefoot or thongs I do!

  7. The ruffled wedges are very awesome. I have a very extensive shoe collection and very extensive size 12 feet. Torrid and Evans overseas are great but much $$$. Compared to how they used to be, Big W and Target are stepping up to the job. I like heels more than they like me but still wear them when required.

  8. I wear a size 9 and usually shop at Novo, Betts and middle-of-the-range shoe stores like Zu. I love a good pair of shoes but, being frugal, rarely buy them. I prefer to own a couple staple items instead of a whole wardrobe full of shoes!I buy basic shoes, like moccassins and ugg boots from Kmart and Target, but refuse to buy proper shoes (heels and boots) from there. The quality just isn't worth it. I'd rather spend twice as much at Betts and be able to wear them for twice as long! They're better made and thus more comfortable at "real" shoe stores, too.

  9. I use to think I was a 9 but as of late I have been buying size 10. I love shoes but am fussy so often don't buy them but when I do I wear them to death.

  10. I wear an 8.5 in runners but I usually have to go up to a 9 or even 10 with flats and heels because my feet are wide aswell. The prettier the shoes, the more narrow they are, I've found!I am a ballet flat junkie. I used to have about 8 pairs but I had to do a clean out so now I only have 4 pairs. Sad face.

  11. Ok….just give me a minute while i drool over the shoe porn up there…Ok, so now that i've done that – i wear a size 6, which you think would be great but i quite often have a similar problem to you. Like, with my shoes for my wedding… i visited a big shoe warehouse while i was in sydney and of the 30-odd styles they kept that would be suitable for wedding shoes, they only had 2 styles in my size!

  12. I have short, wide feet, usually wearing a 6 or 7 depending on the brand. But I need a D fitting, so have to buy from Athlete's foot when I want new sneakers. Other shoes rarely make it into my house, I have trouble finding the width without getting shoes that are too long. I'm currently down to one pair of sneakers, one pair of 12 year old flat sandals and two pairs of slippers. I should probably shop soon.

  13. Viva la 11s!! Yep, I'm a BIG Target shoe-er. I should buy shares. I'm all about ballet flats – the prettier and more unique the better. And the US Target is even better for 11s in different styles! Oh, and Rubi Shoes do 11s, but they run on the smaller size in flats. However, I bought boots that fit both my feet AND calves, over jeans too. Wow. Never happened before. Even Target's are usually too narrow in the calves.

  14. I had large-ish feet – size 9-9.5 depending on the shoe (although my latest boots were a 10 because I wear thicker socks with them in winter). The part I find hard is that I have a long narrow foot with a high arch and long toes. So many shoes these days have very small cover areas in the toe region, so the gaps between my toes still show – not a good look in my book.I now have an OK collection of shoes, but they are mainly sandals for summer, which I love wearing. Winter is harder, as are wet days. High arch makes it very hard to get a fit, even in Target shoes. So glad I'm not a size 10 or 11 with the same problems that I have now – that would be impossible!

  15. Haha. I love this. We have have our issues buying shoes, clothes, whatever I suppose. Love that everyone is telling us their shoe buying spots. Hubby may not be as happy. ;)

  16. Im a size 11 – 12 and have over 30 pairs. I have to get something better to keep them in, I have no more room in my closet. :)Jessica xoxwww.toomanysequins.blogpsot.com

  17. i wear an 8. Guv thinks my feet are cute because they are so small. my bestie wears a 10/11 so i understand your frustration in finding shoes in your size.as for how many pairs of shoes i own? about 7. i like to think i'm a shoe person but perhaps i'm not?bags on the other hand…..

  18. Oh Jess. OMG. If I could steal ALL your shoes I would. Even if I wouldn't get away with it. ;) Rach, I wish I had smaller feet sometimes. Not too small, just more average. I think you're a sort of shoe person, 7 is a decent number.
