I’ve been inspired #MyBrother

My Brother & I

My brother ran the 2011 Gold Coast Airport Asics Half Marathon on the weekend {these are his results}. And I tell you what, I couldn’t be prouder! He decided he’d do it, trained for it and did it. All those mornings or evening of running paid off. He didn’t puke once. Score. And I don’t know much but 1 hour 55 minutes seems like a short amount of time to run 21km.

It made me think. Three years ago I said I would train to do a leg of the local Race the Rattler held every year. I still haven’t done it. One leg is only approx 5km. Here he is doing 21km. I was envious. He was setting goals and making them. I’m full of shit. Bullshit. I say this and that and don’t honour my word in relation to it. And so what, I may never do the leg of Race the Rattler. But I will run at least that far. So I’m going to use my little brother as my inspiration.

I will complete the Couch to 5km challenge this time.
I will do my food diary as my Dr requested.
I will get some decent sleep.
I will finish. This time.

Are you with me? Who do you look to to inspire you?

  1. Oh yes I am with you. I need to complete the C25K program as well. Got to week 4 and got sick and haven't seemed to be able to get back into it. I'm going to start back at it when I get home though. Definitely! (Seeing that photo today made me miss my sneakers and treadmill. Bwahahahaha)

  2. Yes I am with you! I have been writing everything down for the last week and a bit and find it is making a massive difference. I need to get back to the excercise as well so was thinkng of giving C25K another shot and cancelling my membership I am not using.

  3. I don't think have a choice.I'm with you.

  4. I too have been honest with myself in the past few weeks about my desired weight loss and fitness goals. I haven't reached them and have done minimal to achieve them but still get annoyed with myself because I haven't reached them. There is always a different excuse with me.I'm using other blogs and inspiring stories as inspiration myself – I'll be following your journey and using it as inspiration for myself.Good luck!

  5. Good for you! Good ON you! It's amazing how seeing someone do something we want to do can really kick our butt into gear! I'm certainly not at the stage to be gearing up for this kind of run, but I will definitely be cheering you on and waving my virtual pom poms! You can do it!!!

  6. Nice job to your bro! My first half was an awesome feeling. You can do it! Cross that 5K off your list!

  7. I want to be with you, i really do. I just dont know if i'm in the right headspace right now ( see my blog for more explanation on that ) and thats ok. I will get back to running, one day… i promise.

  8. I'm with you sensei. I'm about to kick my ass into gear here's hoping we can all inslife and support each other

  9. I'm in. Can't run because of dodgy knees but will think of something else to rid myself of my jelly-belly. Need to be better at writing food diary too. Think I stopped because I spent the whole day alternating between the fridge and the notebook so got nothing else done… Soooo much food passes my lips. Onwards and upwards, or downwards as the scales will go!

  10. I am with you. I have let myself go again after being in good shape. When I stop running, its my mental health that suffers though, more than my weight (well, what i mean is yes I get fat, but I dont care as much as the depressive moods I get in). Running and feeling fit makes me mentally healthy and happy. I'm all for that:)

  11. Couch to 5k.Hmmm, wonder how many trips between couch and fridge that is? That's probably not what you mean though. I should probably walk around the house a bit as well.More thinking is required.

  12. I have C25k on my Day Zero list. I'm happy to help keep you accountable if you keep me on track too!

  13. I have a plan Mel. You raise money for charity….You ask people to donate money and when its gets to $5,000 you have to complete a 5km run otherwise all money gets refunded…You can use a paypal account to do it and raise money for your favourite charity…it might be the little difference that keeps you going… Let me know what you think

  14. Ooooo, Dean Boy. This could be a good idea, especially if I start to fall off the wagon. But three runs in three days so far! 35 minute interval ones, but still. YAY.
