How do you choose…?

I love my blogroll. I love following so many blogs by such a wide variety of people. But I noticed {I was eavesdropping on Twitter, AGAIN} that most bloggers pick and choose the blogs they are going to display. I get this. It makes sense to only promote those that you feel affiliated or connected to.
But today I received a comment thanking me for the additional traffic from my blog. A new reader {or an old reader under a new name}. Someone I wouldn’t necessarily hand pick for my blog roll. {Gosh I hope you are ok with me describing you this way… I mean well} And it felt good. Like I was contributing to other bloggers. Like the community so many talk about really existed and I was doing my bit. A bit of a warm fuzzy feeling.
Sooo, how do you decide? Do you list your favourite reads only? Or do you list all the blogs you currently read and follow? I’d be interested to know.
Small side note of the update variety!: Tomorrow expect the Brisbane Hello Blogger Event post. I’ve stolen some pics, thanks Dani & Dani. I am ready to rock and roll. Now I just have to put it all down with gushing too much or revealing how truely dorky I am.

  1. its hard isnt it because you cant display everyone you love. perhaps try and rotate them :)looking forward to you post.

  2. Its hard, I just have the ppl that have me on the blogroll thingy & the ones I really really like.

  3. I list all the blogs I read and follow!

  4. That's SO interesting – what an enormous rock I must be hiding under, because I've never even *heard* of people picking and choosing which blogs they'd like to display based on who they feel ''comfortable'' with listing! Intriiiguing!I don't have a Blog Roll anymore, but when I did, I'd just list everyone that I read :)

  5. I really only list the people that have been with me from the beginning. Although some people quit blogging and then I replace them with new ones.I love your blog and that is why it is listed.

  6. I just picked for it to display the five most recent posts. That way it didn't take up a TON of space, but everyone gets on there.

  7. I put up all the blogs I'm reading. But I do sometimes forget to add the new ones I find.*runs off to update my blogroll*

  8. I am slack at updating. But about once a month I have a shuffle – take off some, add a few new. It's a bit random for me….

  9. I'm pretty slack with updating too.Generally I'll display my favourite blogs to read. Some of them are popular blogs and some of them are new, smaller blogs. If I notice someone has put me on their blogroll, I'll add them to mine aswell as I'm a big believer of bloggers helping each other out :)A great post – something to think about that's for sure!

  10. I pick the ones i read the most – whether i enjoy their writing more than the others, or they simply post more often. There are are few new blogs that i have only been following for a short time ( such as yours! ) that arent listed yet, and a few that have dropped way back on their posting and so i've taken them off… if i'm going to "advertise " them on my blog, i dont want to be sending my readers to a page that hasnt changed in a month…

  11. Easy – I don't have one. Aesthetically I don't like them, and I would feel responsible for the on-going content of the blogs I'm directing my readers toward. I prefer to make collages for those I love, or to link directly to specific posts from other blogs.

  12. I'm quite lazy but I try to rotate them (says she who hasn't done that in AGES!). I also try to keep it to the blogs that post regularly. Doesn't have to be every day, but at least once in a while :)

  13. I've listed the ones I read often, that way I'm alerted to new posts as soon as I open my own blog, but I really shuld get in there and delete those who haven't posted for quite a while.

  14. I added the gadget thingy that can list all of the blogs I follow (well, I chose a lot of them, not anyone who hasn't updated in 3 months) and then theblog shows the latest 15 (with the option to see the rest). Then I've added blog buttons of some blogs I love. I can't show off my favourite blog – she's private.:(
