Have a Happy Social Media Birthday

Image
Something occurred to me the other day. On my birthday. It started dawning on me from around 6am when I received my first Happy Birthday text. By midday this thought was crystal clear. It was because of the birthday wishes I was receiving. From everywhere. On everything.
I had messages on twitter, facebook, on my blog {well, I basically asked for them with my Yay, It’s my Birthday post}, via email, text message and calls to my mobile phone. That’s a lot of places to check for messages. And I don’t even have a tumblr or flicker account!
I didn’t know if I should respond to the messages. Or just bulk reply. I felt a pressure to like or thank them all. But at the same time I didn’t want to reply to some and not all. Or get half way and stop. So I bulk thank you’d. And then wondered if that was enough.
And I imagine it is a lot of places to have to leave messages. Oh the pressure. So much for the old days when you put a card in the mail {hopefully on time}, delivered to their home to open at their leisure. Now you have to send them a message on facebook {and/or twitter}, follow up with a text message or call and shoot off an email just to round out the day. And don’t even talk to me about these crazy’s with blogs. Sigh. {wink, wink}
Or is that a bit much? What’s your birthday wish wishing protocol?
One, all or none?

  1. I really don't expect a thank you. It's your birthday, the Happy Birthday message is a small gift to you, not something that you should feel pressured to repay. A bulk acknowledgment message is more than enough!

  2. I like to wait until I have forgotten to wish someone a happy birthday and then they do a blog post about their birthday and then I say, OH CRUD, I FORGOT. That is generally my protocol.Happy Birthday!

  3. I post on their face book page. But if by some miracel they are not a part of the face book world then I txt or call them.

  4. life is so complex sometimes xx

  5. I don't expect a thankyou but I always say thankyou. So on all the birthday wishes, I will write a thankyou under then on FB; on my blog I will write a thankyou post; on twitter I will @ reply them all [either group/individual]. I don't receive emails so that's out. Texts I reply to and calls I am generally saying thankyou while talking ;)
