Hubby’s a close sleeper… You?

There comes a time in most relationships where you end up sharing a bed. Intimate relationships that is. Yup. I clarified with intimate. Were you ready for THAT on a Sunday morning? {Especially those of you sporting hangovers from the Aussie Bloggers Conference 2011 Dinner Dance} And with the sharing of a bed comes a realisation. The placing of yourself into a category and until you have to share, you’ll never know.
Are you a sleep close or sleep far type person.
I discovered early that Hubby was a close sleeper. Like a freakin’ magnet is probably the best way to describe it. No matter the size of the bed {from single swag to king size beds} Hubby will always end up squished up against my back. In the early days, I used to get up and walk around the bed. Hop back in his side and go back to sleep.
Within what seemed like minutes, I would awake, AGAIN, to Hubby who had resumed squish position. You see, it turns out, I am a far sleeper. I don’t mind a bit of contact but don’t crowd me in. And for goodness sake don’t plaster yourself against my back and trap me between you and the edge of the bed. One dangerously perched quarter turn away from face planting onto the bedroom floor.
However somewhere in the past almost eight years we’ve made it work. But it can be tricky business this bed sharing thing. Don;t you think? It’s a skill. A patiently learned and negotiated skill.
So. Fess up. Close sleeper, far sleeper? Which is it.

  1. If I am scared, I like to have part of myself touching. Could be a foot, an arm, etc.Generally though, I'm a far sleeper. I can fall asleep though with someone cuddling up to me. Go figure. Also, most boys are too hot and I will push them away because they get all sweaty lol.

  2. It is tricky! I am a far sleeper, and lucky for me so is he. We snuggle for a while but then I need to move away to sleep properly. Also I am restless and change possies 100 times so it would drive him mad!

  3. He is a close sleeper, I am not. 20 years later I am used to it, but in the middle of summer it isn't much fun!

  4. We're both far sleepers, which you would think would work well together – but it just makes for more fights over the duvet as we both try to grab as much as we can and take it to our side of the bed with us! We've moved up to a superking size quilt to try and rectify the situation, but it would seem no quilt is big enough to stop the tugging!! ha ha! :)

  5. I am a close sleeper with one foot, arm etc. My first husband was a far sleeper and well I am no longer with him lol. Heartpoet was a far sleeper till he met me and says that till I turned up he could not sleep close up but has no trouble doing it with me hehehe.

  6. We're both far sleepers normally but if I get cold or have a bad dream or something I'll scoot over and snuggle until I'm warm up or feel better. Then I scoot back to my spot and go back to sleep. Hubby does the same. We have always slept under separate blankets due to our different temperature tolerances.

  7. "In the early days, I used to get up and walk around the bed. Hop back in his side and go back to sleep." Haha! That's a great idea.I'm a far sleeper. I like to snuggle when going to bed, but once I want to fall asleep, you'd better give me my room or I'll be waking you up with, "Move over. MOVE OVER!"

  8. I tend to invade most of the bed when I sleep. So I guess that makes me a close sleeper by default.SSG xxxSydney Shop Girl blog

  9. I sleep like the dead (literally) flat on my back arms folded over my tummy and feet pointed like a ballet dancer. We have over the years developed into far sleepers at night and cuddlers in the morning. Now the question is are you a "folder" or a "scruncher" ….ciao Lisa

  10. I am a close sleeper. When we first got married, Professor would wrap his arms around me until I fell asleep – 17.3 seconds – and then he would gently extricate himself and roll over. Now that we've been married 4.5 years, all I hear is, 'Sweetie, can I just have some space please?'Much easier now that I've gotta wear the mask though, coz I hafta fall asleep on my back. And I find that more often than not, he schnuggles up to me to fall asleep anyway ;)

  11. I'm a close sleeper, I love my snuggles till I fall asleep then I tend to move away in my sleep. But this is an issue as I always end up going to bed alone, so I position the pillows to make it feel kinda like my mans in the bed with me. He'll snuggle up to me when he comes to bed though, but also end up on his side of the bed once asleep.

  12. I used to be a far sleeper & it took over a decade to train hubby to respect my personal space during sleep. Now that I've had kids I am so greatful for any sleep I can get that I can & do sleep with; 2 wiggling children inbetween me & the hubby; while being pushed off the bed by said children; while being kneed/elbowed/headbutted/kicked in the spine/kidneys/face/bladder. These days I think I could sleep on a median strip in the Valley.x

  13. Don't tell my wife this, but I secretly like when we get our own beds, like if she is gone for something. I love being able to stretch out and relax.
