Seriously considering a tattoo

This is under serious consideration. I think mostly I like the idea of a reminder of moments in time. I photograph, I write, I create extensive hand crafted scrapbooks and albums all in the name of remembering. And when I went to watch my friend get her first tattoo I was impressed by a sheet of images and wanted them all. A forever knot, a small gold and red crown, a sparkling diamond. Sigh. But am I brave enough to make a move that will last forever. Who knows. Watch this space.

Because I know that tattoo’s are so personal I went to extra special care to copy all the links etc. They are below in order from top to bottom. All images were sourced from we heart it.

  1. Get one! But make sure you are 100% about what you want and where. Not 98%, not 99%. 100%. You need to desperately want one before you should get one.Personally, I prefer black and white only, because colour tends to fade quicker and easier. Also, although technique and inks have improved over the decades I'm hesitant to have text tattooed on me as, when tattoos get older they're not as crisp, and I'd hate for text to mash into a smudge like I see on other people. :)

  2. OMG! I LOVE the tattoo's of the bows on the legs. How cool is that? I say you should GO FOR IT! :)

  3. DON'T DO IT! I have met so many people who think it's pretty and cool and lovely, but it's your body! It's permanent! I guarantee there will be a day that you will rue the day you did it. GUARANTEE… You can be unique and individual without getting a tattoo. Be different in your own way! You already are!

  4. I love tattoos, I currently have four with plans for more in the future. The ONLY thing I regret is the placement of my first one on the back of my shoulder where I can't see it. I agree with Megan, you must 100% sure about the image and placement. Go to a reputable artist and discuss your plans, a good one will be able to guide you in regards to what will and won't work.

  5. Recursively does have a point when she says many people get tattoos because they're "lovely" or "pretty". And, IMO, that's not a good reason to get a tattoo. The bows on the legs may look nice, but do you want them FOREVER?As for "it's your body, it's permanent", well, that's the point! The body must be looked after, however it's ours and we can do to it whatever we wish. And if that means permanently marking a picture or words onto it that we love and want around forever, what's the big deal?I've heard the argument "But tattoos are forever. You're going to be an old wrinkly lady one day. Think about that!" And I don't see the logic in that argument. 50 years ago 20 year old women didn't get tattoos (very few, anyway). So no one ever sees a little old lady with a full sleeve walking down the street these days. However, it's very common for 20 year old women to have tattoos these days, so in 50 years there's going to be PLENTY of little old ladies walking down the street with full sleeves and chest pieces and bows on their legs. The "But you'll be old one day!" argument is silly, because old people with tattoos will soon be THE NORM.My biggest piece of advice (and I don't even have many tattoos at all!) is to never settle. Don't settle on an artist, or a design, or the placement. You get what you pay for.

  6. That is sage advice, the be totally certain. About 6 months ago I was all set to have the poem Invictus in scrawl around my wrist like a bracelet. Now, I am off the idea. Phew. Saved. I know what you mean recursively, I got the tattoo on my hip to be cool and individual. And now it makes me laugh. Like THAT was ever going to prove anything. Silly kid I was.

  7. Ooh, the second one is beautiful. It took 10 years for me to figure out exactly what I wanted. I've got "Past the Stars' written on the top of my left foot. It's a saying that's special to my family, and my sister has the same. I absolutely adore it.And, I agree with everything Megan has written!

  8. I would love to get one as a tribute to my kids.. I want a southern cross.. not sure if i will ever take the plunge though ;)
