Challenge accepted CheeseBoy! Show us your ducks, he said. Perhaps Australian ducks are different to the ducks that reside in the US. He said. Or similar. I may have paraphrased. And since the weather was poo for me, but as they say fine weather for ducks decided to accept the challenge. After all, opportunities for cool photos were at a minimum. Off I went to find ducks. So I went to where all the cool ducks hang out.
I arrived and commenced the search for ducks. I started by wandering aimlessly. A helpful child spotted the camera slung around my neck and offered assistance getting a good shot. I said I was here to shoot ducks. Worried by her expression, I corrected my self and said get some photos of ducks. And she said she knew where there was a nest. She’d show me.
Scoop. A nest exclusive. Very excited now I followed on behind her. We started heading to the waters edge and me, never the gracefull’est of people started to get wary of the wet ground and my proximity to the edge of the pond {or whatever the hell it actually is, I think waste water run off, but I may be wrong}. She waved me forward. Pointing excitedly. We were here.
Unfortunately the ducks were not. They were water hens. I think. Nest – check. Ducks…? Fail. So I thanked my little friend and headed around to the board walk area. Thinking to myself, that fine weather for ducks saying is a load of shit. Ducks don’t appear to like overcast rainy days any more than I do. They had gone into hiding. Darn it.
I continued to wander. Getting my daily 30 minutes. Mud squelched between my toes. Perhaps thongs had not been the right choice of footwear. I thought about getting a coffee. And then it happened. Just as I resigned myself to taking some pond shots and scooting out of there. They swam on over. Some Aussie Ducks.
Success. CheeseBoy would be so proud. So informed. And probably a little embarrassed and deeply touched to have caused so much trouble, if he was the decent sort of human being I had assumed him to be. So here they are Aussie Ducks.
