So everyone remembers how excited I got when we were FINALLY able to change the background to any darn thing that we wanted, right!? Well these new gadgets are good too. Not as cool as that. But good none the less. And as a bonus, Blogger gave us two at once. All hail Google’dom. And they are;
Popular Posts & Blog Stats
And why are these so much fun? Well because I said so, ok. *clears throat* They just are ok, trust a girl in nerd glasses. Let me tell you a little bit about the new ones and then I’ll tell you how to install a gadget. In case you have no idea what I am talking about.
Using the Popular Posts gadget I have made an all time top 10 most popular posts and a Top 5 posts this week. It gives people an opportunity to read more of your blog and even does a nice job of increasing your page views as people click on them. Good news for those of us attempted to flog something, advertise or generally push ourselves to the top of inter galactic domination.
Wait, you’re not doing that. Whoops. Must just be me.
Now the blog stats one. It uses the new dashboard stats feature to record visitors to your site. It will display in a counter or a graph or both. If you are using a stat counter now, you may be interested in this more integrated one. I think you even have the option to eliminate your own views from the figures.
However
I didn’t use it. I’m kinda shy about the number of visitors my page gets. And I don’t, personally, want a big fat ticker counting out my popularity for all to see and giving a perfect excuse for every man and his dog to compare me to that other blog they saw with twice as much traffic and now they cant help but think maybe, just maybe it was a colossal waste of time reading me after all and oh what a shame, un-follow….
So anyway. I don’t use it. If you want to use either of these gadgets simply follow these steps;
- Go to your dashboard
- Select the design tab… It will default to page elements so don’t go anywhere else
- Click on ADD GADGET above the list called side bar.
- Up pops a useful little window with a list of gadgets
- To find the gadget you are looking for (new or older ones you may not be using) scroll down. but wait, the new ones are at the top. Convenient! Click on your selection.
- The gadget will then open and you will be given options. Play around, be sure to rename the gadget {important to note that IT WILL BE VISIBLE} and have some fun.
- When finished click SAVE
- Upon closing the pop up the gadget will be added to the top of the sidebar you added it to, to change it’s positioning click and drag to wherever. When you are happy click SAVE in the halfway to top right hand corner.
- Now go and check out your handy work on your blog.
So there you go. Off you go now my blogger friends and chuck some new gadgets on your page, because heck, I say you can never have too many. For more blog Building tips click on the Blog Building label above.
