The gift of preparation

I have been a weight loss loser. I have been flying by the seat of my pants and ducking out the door planning to grab breakfast, and to buy a healthy lunch. It never happened. Often I would get to 11am and be starving. I would cave and eat whatever morning tea treat was bought into the office. Then when the lunch truck came I would eat whatever they had on offer. And never the healthy option. I was defeating myself. Time and time again.
But this week there has been a shift. I have been prepared. Been ready. I have packed lunch. I have not once left in the morning without eating something. Because I have been prepared. I make this chunky coleslaw with carrot, cabbage (white and purple), capsicum, shallots and parsley. And some days I have egg in it. Other days it is avocado or fresh grated beetroot. Some days ham or tuna or chicken. It is the perfect base. And so simple. And it keeps (because you only put a spoon of mayo when you pack the days lunch) for AGES. So make it in bulk. Ha!
So what do you do to prepare to succeed? What things do you do in advance to make succeeding easier? Tell me you tips and tricks. Like emptying a cupboard of snack foods. Packing healthy snacks. Gosh, does everything I talk about revolve around snacks…?! Anyway. Tell me, tell me, tell me. I love secret weapons.
In other updating type news. I have hit the treadie a few times this week. Overall it has been a good. Productive. And I feel proud. I didn’t get on the scales. I resisted the urge. I used to weigh myself daily. It was a sickness of sorts. My day would go how the weigh in did. Not healthy at all. Anyway. What I’m saying is that I’m not sure that I will weigh myself until the first month passes.

  1. Sounds like you're making the changes you need. As Dr Phil says "if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got…" Not tips for you. I'm just starting to explore the very same things as you. xPS – looks like your bod isn't the only thing getting a makeover! Your site looks so vibrant and colourful. Love it.

  2. You sound like you are going great guns, well done!

  3. After grocery shopping, I divide things like cereal into snack sized bags and put their WW Points on the front, so I won't overdo on serving size. I keep my husband's snack foods in a seperate cabinet too, so I won't see them all the time. Out of sight, out of mind. :)

  4. Hmmm I'm not sure I'm the one to ask about healthy tips right now, as I sit here eating pizza while reading your blog [hey it's homemade pizza!].I'm glad you're making strides along your new healthy lifestyle journey though!!I started to this week but, well it hasn't been a great week for a multitude of reasons and so climbing back on the weightloss wagon this weekend!xx

  5. way to go on preparation! i'm horrible at being prepared. sigh. stick with it!

  6. I think half the battle with weight loss is being prepared with healthy food. At least, that is half my battle.

  7. Oh Stephanie, you are my hero! THAT is prepared.

  8. You are going SO well! Congratulations on a great week! You should be really proud of yourself, because we all are!Things that help me are eating oranges – sounds silly, but if I'm craving junk I quickly have a couple of oranges which fill me up and give me some sugar too… it never fails. And munch on almonds and honey (and if you can chuck some seeds in as well, all the better). And if you struggle to remember to drink water, get a water jug and fill it up and put it on your desk and work your way through 2 a day. I always feel calmer and more emotionally stable when I've been chucking back fish oil tablets.xoxo

  9. Top effort Suger Coat it! WW taught me to be prepared with eating. Best tip: Always plan your meals and then shop for your menu.

  10. Well done! Being prepared is the key. And I agree about the scales, I can now happily go a month or more without even thinking to jump on them. It can be such a mental thing, I feel better the less I look at the numbers. I say be prepared, and the numbers will take care of themselves.
