Got Vision..?

Long before the secret made it cool my father encouraged us to write out goals and create a collage of things we wanted. Places to visit, items we wanted, skinny photos of ourselves (heehee). So we would compile collages of things of interest and put them somewhere that we could see them. To stay present to them. To give them the attention and focus that they needed to come into fruition. My board was always covered in things like…

Laughing smiling people. Beautiful blue skies. Endless beaches. Advertising that I loved (i wanted to work in Marketing). That new car. Those perfect pair of shoes. Varying quantities of money. House plans. Bright colours. Quotes. Photos of loved ones and adventures had.

A strange thing happens when you place all these things added together in the one place and focus your attention and action on it, it forms a vision for your future. Hence the now common name of vision board. And ours is the one shown above. It is a bit sad and neglected at the moment. And doesn’t that just say it all. We hadn’t really taken the time lately to create a future. We’ve just been allowing the future to happen to us.

No wonder we haven’t been getting what we wanted.

So I got to thinking what is it that we want on our board..? What is it that we want… So I have started by getting Europe and Africa brochures to cut out photos from. I pulled out some images from the women’s health magazine. I am creating the possibility of being a runner and have committed to going back to my old gym where the guy knows me and my habits. A huggies ad or two. A new couch. I think I will leave the super sized $100 note, the masquerade mask and Hubby’s tool wishlist. I’m going to find a pic of a dinner party and of a big family Christmas and a block of land for the duplex plans we have… With a cheap price written on it. And I’ll dig out a photo of us. In love and laughing. Or at very least mucking around. Something like this…
Vision board done. Sort of. I’ll definitely put Invictus on there. A few more quote cards. And other stuff that grabs my attention. Like new makeup. And some shoes. A shopping spree. A new home PC… Etc etc. And the fun part is sitting down with Hubby and creating a dream life. A dream life that time after time comes into being using this simple technique. Don’t ask me how it works. I didn’t plan the universe.

So what about you, do you have a vision board? What’s on yours… Or what would be, if you don’t?

  3. I don't have a vision board, mine is a folder. In it I have a copy of the house floorplan that I'm currently in love with, and pictures of the furniture I would love to have in each room, along with pictures that have the wall colour I like, a lamp I love, curtains that just have to be in the main bedroom, pictures of how I'd like the front and back yards to look. I look at it at least once a week, and not much in it has changed for the last few years.

  4. wow that is such a fun idea…maybe i should do one. i think those diapers might be in it :p

  5. Your Dad was a very wise man! A Visionary… Love your blog!
