Last week my tracker thingy went mad. I use Google analytics {all hail Google}. And my visitors, new visitors and page views skyrocketed. I was euphoric. I danced about with Hubby admiring the spiking nature of my graph. Never has a graph bought about such joy. Such celebration. Not in this house anyway.
But this week, while still good, I have about halved in stats popularity (new visits and page views). And It’s a bit rough on the ego. These dizzying highs and {let’s face it moderate} lows. I feel like those parents who claimed their kid flew away in the balloon. Without the being hauled off the jail for being a dick part.
And I know the peak in traffic was due to all the lovely Blog This visitors coming to see what the hell this blog was all about. And I was ready for a droop. A dip. But not a dive. It almost makes me what to enter every blog comp and give-away opportunity out there. Really throw myself in with abandon. But I won’t. I’m lazy like that. Ha!
And I know, I know. I shouldn’t care. But I do. Because I love the feedback that comes from people reading my stuff. I crave {that’s the only word for it} the interaction. I want what I write to make a difference to someone’s day. To make them laugh, or make them think, or smile. And I learned some lessons. I blog for me. To be able to say what I want to say when I want to say it. I use images that I love {this one, again, is from we heart it}. I take photos, when I have a moment. But for me, interaction matters.
There, I said it, despite the fact it makes me a total traffic tramp.
But it matters to me. Call me sensitive, a sell out or whatever. But I am missing the heady rush of the moment of popularity. And unfortunately the love of a great man, an awesome career, flourishing small business, wonderful family, loyal and loving friends and soon to be constructed fence in order to keep a potential dog, just don’t cut it.
Hold on.
Who am I kidding.
All that. It is more than enough.
But still… well, you know. Boo to stats.
