Politics… The pointy end.

So it is election time again. You know how I know? The majority of the news was covered with stories of politicians making nice with children. Tomorrow it will be the elderly. Now I won’t be disclosing my vote here. This isn’t that kind of article. It’s a tell how it’s done moment. A whinge. A whine. A vent. Ponder a while with me, would you?
I want a politician who will tell me what they really stand for. I don’t want to hear one more shooting down of the opposite side. I want ideas. thoughts and for them to make a stand. Mother Theresa said that she would not attend a rally against war, but invite her anytime to stand for peace. She stood for something. Not against. And the more politicians express what they are for. The more authentic and real they would be.
I want Australian {because let’s face it, it’s the only ones I know intimately enough to comment on} politicians to work together and sort out this national debt sooner rather than later. Use all the skills and talents available. In my opinion you have access to the former treasurer, that Costello dude, who had this country in the best shape of it’s short life, financially. And right now, when we could use whatever mojo he had in the area, where is he? Waaaaay at the back. Hiding out. I say set him to work on the budget with the current ministers of both sides. and for goodness sake, chuck that Bob Brown in the mix and off we go. Actually, come to think of it, give that little Swan guy the boot. He seems a little confused. Anyways… We tell kids to work together. Why can’t politicians work together to get the result they are after.
I want the bullshit advertising to stop. Yes, yes I do. And oh dear, poor me. It’s only like 5 days in. And is too much to ask for a little integrity. Honor. Tact. Good taste?
I want to be given the facts. The whole story. The real deal. I want to be able to put some semblance of faith in the reporting. And I don’t want the ignorance is bliss version. When I get around to voting on that late winter’s morning, I want to be informed. Inspired would be nice but informed will do. Where does one even look for unbiased reporting. Is such a thing possible considering for it to be reported it would always be an interpretation. Gosh. Doing my head in.
And for goodness sake. Can the itty bitty bloody swimmers please be given a rest. Argh. An international embarrassment that both sides keep referring to it and pulling them out. Don’t know what I am talking about. Google Abbott and Budgie Smugglers. Oh the shame.
Anyway. that’s my say.
And yes that great photo of the shoes at the top is irrelevant but did you see how I tried to work it into the title there? Did you like that? Tricky huh. It’s from we heart it.

  1. Autrailian politics? I saw mention of it on the news today. I hope the best man/woman for the job wins. It's also good to hear the bullshit advertising happens in other countries too.

  2. It's unfortunate that the people who would be the greatest leaders could never survive the political structure in Australia (or most of the world). To stand for election you need to prepared to shamelessly promote yourself, tell people what you think they want to hear rather than what they need to hear and ruthlessly stab others in the back to achieve you goals. The quiet achiever who wants to work for the greater good of the country and not for themselves is going to get crushed.

  3. Vicki, so true. I was thinking that as I typed it, just how much change would need to occur for this to even happen.

  4. I hear you SCI. Politics, Shmolitics. I want to know what these people intend to DO.

  5. I'm right there with you, ashamed of this election. I don't think I've heard one good policy yet.

  6. I know nothing about politics, don't understand it at all, so if anyone asks me my opinion on any part of it, I'm brain dead and tongue-tied in a fingersnap. I wish I knew and understood more, but the information just doesn't stick. If I was able to speak coherently on the subject, I'd like to say exactly what you said.
