So, there is this mad women…

This girl I’ve know forever. Mostly she’s fun and light hearted and sort of easy going. She’s got an grumpy side too but it is contained mostly to mornings. Especially early mornings. She hates those. She loves music but doesn’t know who sings it. And really doesn’t care. She loves art and photography and fashion, you know beautiful things. She’s a lover not a fighter but is the straightest shooter you’d ever meet. Don’t ask for her honest opinion if you don’t really want it. Argh. Train wreck. And she just love, love, loves to laugh.
So you get it. She’s pretty cool. But summer becomes autumn become winter and it happens. State of Origin Football. Duh duh duuuummmmmmm. *cue cliff hanger music. It’s a Rugby Leauge code of football thing where we pit age old enemies Queensland vs it’s neighbouring state New South Wales. And it matters to the people that it matters to. Trust me. People here are nuts about it.
And despite not being a football fan. Week to week she wouldn’t know who was playing, or how many teams there are or even if the former football great still plays or is now officially retired after a few seasons of injury riddled crap’ness. not a fan. Not. At. All.

However this girl finds herself lining up year after year to watch this one match (well three matches in a series, so three matches). And something happens.

The mad women is released. She swears. She shouts. Punches the air. Screams at people in front of the screen. Drinks on a week night. Like properly drinks not this sooky la lah have a wine with dinner drinks. She curses the ref for decisions she’s not even sure are that bad. And whoah, watch out if she knows it was a shocking call. Clear the room. And she can be even be known to cheer on a fight. Like, with gusto! It’s shocking really. I try not to judge her for this but it is waaaaay beyond what I have come to expect of this women.
And when this happens I don’t know if I want to go back. To subject myself to the ups and downs of it for one more year. One more game. This women has clearly gone mad. Maroons pride and all that. Because she, of course, is a Queenslander. Derrr.
Oh. Did I mention. It’s me.
