I, Melissa, am an Addict.

When the music starts and the microphones are plugged in and often the wine is flowing, I just can’t help myself. I am well rehearsed and virtually unbeatable. My inner rock star rears her shimmering head and it’s on for one and old. I challenge friends to battles. And I don’t play well with others. I am a complete hog and will not pass over the controller. It is a display that is worse than a child on a ‘mine, mine’ kick. It’s not me though. I’m not like that. It’s the Singstar.
Other players are asked to move to the other side of the room. I position myself close to the screen. And even nearer to the speakers. Sing along if you like, but not too close to my microphone. Your bad notes or timing may kill my score. If I don’t know the words I sing the notes along until I do. A cheat move in our books… And I will deny it until the end of time. We play on easy because getting a high score is more important than the skill level indicator. But believe me. I’m not usually like this, I blame the Singstar. It takes hold of me, it makes me bend the rules.
And I can sing. If I do say so myself. And I do. Because really, no one else is going too. I”m a real belter. I love a good power ballad. A massive belting tune that I can really give it all too. A scary prospect in the middle of suburbia. I can only hazard a guess at what my poor neighbors suffered through last night. I imagine they gritted their teeth through Jimmy Barnes, Meatloaf, Madonna and more.  Decided to humor us because we are usually so well behaved. I thank them for that.
You see it wasn’t me. It was the Singstar.
Have you played? What is your song of choice? Tell me, please, go on. And FYI, this is not a paid presentation. However if the Playstation people would like to change that, I’m in. Like sooooo in. In. In. In.

  1. Hahaha! It would take like a whole cask of GOON to get me to sing in public, even a singstar in my own loungeroom. If you've got it more power to ya sistaaaah!

  2. I never, ever, EVER would have dared to sing in front of anyone (other than my immediate family) until we acquired SingStar. Now I can;t get enough. I'm a big fan of the tragic but classic one hit wonders from any era, plus a plethora of 80's anthems!www.kellyansapansa.blogspot.com

  3. Can't sing, would love to, but can't and thankfully for the neighbours and my family we don't have SingStar. Isn't it funny how these little things bring out the 'bad' in us – love it.
