Now You See It. Now… You DON’T

So this week we were back on the rental arrears band wagon. A forgetful bunch of non-payers we have at the moment. The kind of group that makes you want to evict people. With force. Without any conversation. You know, like a jerk. Because that, well that, could be easier than weeks and weeks of phone calls following up late payments.

And than there is a moment of sunshine. A glimmer of wonder that just makes you smile. Yes, it is that time again. Rent excuses. And this week, I think we have a good one. The excuse, as told to me by my lovely 2IC Ms. V goes a little something like this;

V – Just calling to find out where the rent is that you promised would be paid yesterday.
Tenant – Yes, I had $1,000 go out of my account yesterday.
V – OK, great, we should expect it in our account tomorrow or the day after.
Tenant – No, I mean it just disappeared
V – Excuse me…!?
Tenant –  It was there, I was going to pay rent with it. And now… well, it’s just gone.
V – Uh OK hmmm.
Tenant – Oh but don’t worry. I’m sure the bank will find it. I might give them a call and call you back. Would that be OK? OK, yes, great, thanks bye.
V – Hmmm.

Baaahaahhaa. Seriously, it just disappeared. Poof! Gone. I wish it had reappeared in my account. I could use a poof magical $1,000. Couldn’t you?

All future calls to to this tenant has been unsuccessful. Did her money really vanish? We don’t know. Is it likely that that is what happened? Slim to no chance. It turns out, after months of limping along and stories and excuses this women is simply a liar. Book the judge. It’s eviction time.

This story is just for Vicki… As requested here. Coming soon, my favourite Christmas Gift! Wooooo. Get Excited.
