Once I fell in love, I fell in love HARD. I fell in love before I could even say the word. This is a love that has lasted my entire life…
A love for books. I love the stories contained within. The long afternoon’s spent anywhere on this planet or the next. I made friends with children, animals and neighbourhoods I would never meet. For me books were a refuge from a day to day life that could be dull and uneventful. A way to travel and develop and grow.
It wasn’t only what was on the outside, I loved the way books looked, the way they smelt and being able to hold them, turn the pages and collect them, is one of my favourite things. The weight as I picked them up off the shelves. The texture of the printed ink on the pages. I was determined that no amount of technology would ever sway me from this love. I loved the stories and the transportation, yes but I love the feel more! Or so I thought…
Imagine my surprise to discover that I love audio books just as much, if not more than I love books. Who could I be so fickle you ask? What happened to the declarations made so passionately above? I know, I couldn’t imagine a greater love was possible either. But I do… allow me to justify myself. Here’s why I love audio books;
- You can listen to them anywhere, even when you’re driving, walking down the street or painting the walls all of which is definitely not advisable with a plain old book
- I don’t have to wear my unattractive, definitely unfashionable reading glasses to listen to an audio book
- There are THOUSAND’s of audio book’s available online for FREE… And I love a good bargain
- I love my iPhone and audio books mean I get to spend more time connected to it
- I can access any book, anywhere in the world and download it immediately… no more special order or library queues for this girl!
- I don’t have to expand my bookshelf collection to an impressive FIVE or lug them around in boxes next time I move
- Let’s face it, on a long reading session your arms get tired just from holding the book up and with audio books you needn’t hold anything, just pop in your earphones and away you go
- The people that read them often have sexy, soothing voices… there is noooo downside to that
- Because I like to think of myself as a tech savvy girly and getting on board with the revolution seemed natural to me as picking up my very first book or curling up next to my parents as they read me a story
- Loving audio books doesn’t mean I cannot continue to be faithful to my first love or my second as there is room enough for everyone. I do wonder how hubby feels being called my second love but let me assure him, and you, it’s a timeline thing not an indication of amount of love felt.
So there you have it… You heard it here first.
