Steal Her Style has been reincarnated and here we are! Recreating a look I’ve found on my interwebs travels for those of you playing at home. For this series I’m hoping to include a range of size options, I know not everyone that reads this blog is a plus size shopper. So while it will be predominately plus size, I plan to throw in an option or two for our not so plus friends. Should be fun, right? Let’s get started with this week’s topic, Harem Pants for Summer.
If you read this blog even occasionally, you will know what a big fan I am of the harem pant. Patterned or plain, count me in! So how do you wear this style in summer {when the chances are throwing on a blazer isn’t an option} without looking like you went outside in your pyjamas? I trawled all across the world-wide web and I put together some ideas for you.
Casual cool.
Simply team a fitted singlet or tank top with the pant. Tuck it in or don’t. Whatever suits you . A long necklace like the one shown will help to, then add a belt. I personally love the belted look. For summer I would perhaps ditch the boots and add an ankle strap or gladiator sandal. Finish with a boho bag, big sunnies and a messy up-do and you’re set. Done and done.
Dressing it up.
To dress the harem pant for summer nights or even the office, choose a more sturdy material with a tailored look. Something with structure and tailoring will dress them up where additional layers would normally suffice. Add a sheer top like the one below; tuck or half tuck are your only options here. Anything untucked will not give the dressy vibe. The reveal of the ankle is essential here, so are the ankle strap heels. They add sophistication. Blow-dry your hair, add a chunky chain at your neck and wrist, a shiny watch and an oversized clutch and you are good to go.

Overcoming the objections.
- Need to elongate the leg? cuff the pants or pull them up as high as they go {high-waisted, not Harry high pants}, tuck in your shirt or add a wedge or heel to your shoes.
- Can’t wear heels? Cuff the pants at the ankle to reveal a good portion of ankle. Avoid ankle straps in this case unless you were set on some killer gladiator sandals and consider a more formal hair style {a braid or high bun} to add the ‘dressed up’ factor that the heels bring.
- Can I wear it with a big butt? Well yes indeedie you can. Look for a pair of pants that fit you well. Look for them to cut in at your ankles and waist and really define these areas. And short version, if you’ve got it lady, flaunt it.
Shop the style.

Awesome blog post! Liked the idea of the outfit and detailed info. Harem pants are the most extra comfy pants that one can wear for any occasion. Cheers to the author!
Thanks, team. I agree, harem pants are so easy to wear and can be dressed up or down with ease.
Thanks for your sharing. I think it is useful for many people. I also hope to see more of your blog posts in the future.
Great, thanks so much. 🙂
You’ll love them, they’re so easy to wear when you get started with them. Try 17 Sundays if you’re looking for a recent link, they have a pair in black that are a great starter option. 🙂
I am always fascinated with harem pants, but never got the courage to purchase them for I might not be able to wear them for I’m not sure how to styled them. But reading this post, I guess I’ll be buying soon
I’ve never tried wearing harem pants, due to my troubled relationship with any pants except cropped or leggings haha. I think only cropped ones would work on me!
Worth a go. I LOVE my cropped ones and the chambray ones on the shopping board are high on my must buy list. Good luck!
My six year old son hoicks up his pants and runs around the house yelling he is Harry High Pants, like some kind of badly dressed super hero. I hope he grows out it. I can’t/won’t do harem pants, I think my hips are too wide, my calves too narrow and I just look plain weird. Sigh.
Sigh indeed! Oh well. Better luck next week.
And can I just say, I LOVE THAT. Your son is a legend. 😉
He is a bit of legend, must take after his mum…… I took your advice and dressed up some black harem pants with a white sleeveless blouse (is that still a word?), half tucked, and some strappy black high heeled sandals. I don’t look weird, I think it even looks pretty damn stylish. So I now wear stripes and will wear harem pants, might go all out and combine the two! Thank you for such a great, helpful blog.
Well of COURSE he is. And YAY, so glad. Your outfit sounds fab. Stripes AND harem pants. Winning. You’re welcome. Thanks for letting me blog at you. 😉
Hahahahaha Harry High pants!!
HA! I’m glad someone spotted that. That phrase always make me chuckle too.
