Where you are now. {Confident You}

I hear it all the time. I’ll do that Suger when I lose some weight when my kids are better behaved when my husband pulls his weight around the house. The not now reasons. The not now excuses. I want you to be happy now. I want you to know that I don’t want you to wait for anything to be comfortable, enjoy your life and do what you want.

Please stop doing that.

My friend had worked hard her entire life; I’d know her for twenty years of it. She planned to work less, travel more in her retirement years; she planned to do a lot with those years. When the time came, she would forgive more, give generously, love with greater warmth and generosity. Because this woman wanted a lot out of life, and she expected a lot from people, a demanding grandmother figure I didn’t want. But I loved her anyway. And when she passed away she did so with a quiet word about life being lonely sometimes and short, so very very short.

And doesn’t that sum it up?

So stop waiting for a perfect body, an ideal partner, a perfect child or a perfect day full of perfectly temperate sunshine and perfect people behaving perfectly to go out there and live life how you want to live it. Enjoy the life you have now. Enjoy yourself now. Stop waiting for a day that may not ever come. It might be morbid, but I hope it will inspire you to step out there and do something. Don’t do it for me; do it for you. Excuses are sucking the life out of your life. Now’s your chance. Go for it.

And that’s all I want to say about that.

Absolutely! Living life with no excuses is the way life is meant to be lived. It’s an empowering moment when you learn this for yourself.

Thanks for today’s words of wisdom.

You’re so welcome. Thanks for always taking the time to visit and leave me some love. xo

  3. This is such a great message. I remember somebody once told me, that there was no “good” time to have a baby. This adage applied to so many things – I remember thinking when planning my wedding that there was no “good” time to get married. There will always be things that will make it inconvenient for you or others… but you should do it anyway. Because life is short, and sometime brutal. Live your best life!

I absolutely agree with this Sarah. A great reminder. Thanks so much for taking the time to add to the conversation as always. xo

  4. I couldn’t agree more! Perfect is a myth, now is the time, not tomorrow, or 6 months from now. Do the best you can with right now. Why wait a second longer for some happiness?

SUCH a myth. It’s a killer that perfect lie.
      Why indeed!?
      Thanks so much Pink. xo

Bingo baby. So many people get into a way of thinking that everything in life must be at a level perfection they imagined that doesn’t cause them stress. I personally find quiet beauty and learning in not everything being perfect because it’s that contrast up against the things that are utterly wonderful in my life that makes me know, feel and realise how damn blessed I am and how magical life can be. Even amidst imperfection and chaos.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thank you Trudie. You’ve added so much to the conversation. Just like you always do. It’s much appreciated. xo

  6. I love reading your posts on these types of subjects. Although mostly I freak out because I’m generally already doing it all and then I’m all like ‘I can’t possibly be doing it all right’ but I guess mostly I do. We are lucky like that I reckon.

Thanks Sheri. And you know what, most of us are looking for a bigger answer, more to do or something like that but there is no big answer. It’s just lots and lots of little things.

We are lucky to have been pointed in the right direction and to have been smart enough to heed the advice. Indeed we are.

Great post! I wrote a post a coupla weeks ago about being a contented fashionista, and was saddened how nearly every commenter was unsatisfied with their body and therefore NOT a contented fashionista. :-(

Thank you Janet. It takes time and a dedicated effort, I think, to be okay with the body you have after being trained into believing it’s all SO wrong. Keep shining a light on the positives so people can see.

Well that’s great news Renee, you’re welcome!

  10. I recently wrote an article on this and you are spot on. Happiness is not a goal it is an emotion that we choose and we need to look at the now, live in the moment and see our contentment is really happiness x

Thank you Jodi. It’s a habit too, I think. Lots of small daily choices see you being happy.

  11. Absolutely wonderful and true – I am totally with you on this. I lately chose to immigrate and this was a big factor. Life is too short!

Well you’ve just summed this up perfectly. I feel quite inspired after reading that. So true, if I were to get hit by a bus tomorrow I think I’d be quite annoyed at myself if I’had deferred happiness over stupid little things (like I tend to do sometimes!). Thanks-you :-) Mel x

Thank you. I’m glad it inspired you into action and yes, we all tend to do that whole deferment thing sometimes.

  14. This hits me so very much today Melissa. I’ve just found out that a friend has lost her husband, and he was only half-way through his life. Thank you for putting it into perspective xx
