Tess Munster {Steal Her Style}

Tess Munster: Steal Her Style

When it comes to changing the way plus size women look at their bodies there aren’t many women who have done as much for the movement as this woman. Tess Munster, plus size model and all round awesome chick founded the #effyourbeautystandards hashtag which has supported thousands of women worldwide to embrace their body, embrace their beauty and be themselves. So who better to steal her style {because it’s fearless} then Tess, right?

THE LOOK.

Tess rocks a sort of Goth vintage look. In my opinion anyway. A cute retro look with some sharp edges, it’s really no surprise that she works with plus brand Domino Dollhouse so often, they’re a perfect fit. If you were shopping to steal Tess’s style you would be thinking pencil skirts, skater dresses, cherry print bikinis and a splash of leopard print here and there. Add some metallic spikes, studs and the occasional piercing, if that’s your thing.

My favourite thing about Tess is she has fun with her clothing, her outfits show off and proudly exclaim look at me world I’m fabulous. And THAT is what I hope you take form this week. I hope you get a little bolder, have a little more fun and show off a little bit more. After all you’re beautiful; on the outside, where it counts. It’s about time you started believing it lady. Now, let’s check out Tess’s style baby.

THE SHOPPING.

For the shopping list this week I went WAY out of my usual places to shop and got my pointy edged vintage on. And you know what, it was LOTS of fun. I can certainly see myself wearing the zebra print dress and leopard skirt {which animal print and I usually avoid each other} and the galaxy dress, well that’s just about the coolest thing ever! A must own, I think. So happy shopping to you, and don’t forget to share your top spots to shop this style. Help the other ladies out!

  1. I’ve never seen her before, but she’s beautiful. Definitely want to steal her style… or parts of it. :)

She absolutely is, right!? And me too, she makes me want to learn how to victory roll my hair!

How fabulous is Tess? Love her style too. I would definitely adopt some aspects of her style. I would wear those cats eye glasses in a hot minute. Is Domino Dollhouse an American company? Have you shopped there?

SO fabulous. The cats eye glasses are amazing and I also love the galaxy dress. It is an American company but I’ve picked up a few things from there over the years, never a problem. The accessories are cheap and cheerful but well worth the money and the clothes are gorgeous. Liv from Wait Until the Sunset has a number of their items on her blog if you search for the brand there.

There is so much fun to be had with this style, for women of all shapes and sizes! The wiggle dresses are perfect for showing off those curves while the flouncy dresses are super fun to wear and are quite flattering with the nipped in waist and big skirts. But you knew I’d say that anyway :P

SO much fun and if the way your wear it so beautifully is any indication of how versatile and fun it is, then it’s AMAZING. And yes, I absolutely knew you’d say that. Haha.

How do I not know about her!? She’s gorgeous. That galaxy dress and bikini are amazing.

She really is! Go out there and read more about Tess, I’ve now added the link to her official site. She’s wonderful. And re: the bikini, I’m hoping ASOS hurry up and bring out the bottoms too. It’s weird to just release the top. Haha.

  5. She really is something, isn’t she? I’ve always been a bit in awe of her.

She really is. I had a bit of a fan girl moment yesterday when she RT the post and thanked me for it. Swoooon. It says a lot about the ladies in this industry that they are so supportive. Tanesha from Girl with Curves did the same thing.

  6. Where does this girl shop??? I have so much trouble buying beautiful clothes, just end up wearing t-shirts, trackies & fleecy jumpers!!

Start at the stores I listed, I tried to incorporate places with sizing to 26/28 if possible {for Tess} and go from there. I see a lot of Domino Dollhouse, a lot of what looks like SWAK and the bikinis are from all over but I noticed Monic F {i think it’s called} has a larger range of styles and sizes that have been reported as worth the money is support and fit. Good luck!!

There’s nothing worse than being trapped in lounge wear when you want to bust out! Not that there’s anything wrong with trackies.

  7. I love Tess, so much! She is so gorgeous and such an inspiration!

So much! And SUCH an inspiration. Basically ditto what you said. Haha.

  8. Seriously? I am all about self esteem and women loving their bodies. We must especially be an example to younger girls. However, this is not healthy. These women you are showing are not “plus size”, they are obese and unhealthy. Do not try and tell me this Tess person is healthy. She is not. Loving yourself is also taking care of yourself. Please do not try and spread a message to young girls that being obese is okay, spread healthy eating, exercise, not comparing yourself to others, and loving yourself..

This is a steal her style post, not a steal her body post. Tess is perfect for this because she has an amazing, unique style that others may wish to emulate. The size of her body doesn’t matter. I won’t comment on her health, it’s none of my business, and won’t enter a debate about it.

But I will say that I think showing a diverse range of bodies can only be a good thing for confidence and good body image, after all for decades now it’s been all about ‘thin is in’ and the nation has never been fatter… Perhaps it’s time to reconsider or methods. Perhaps it’s time to stop focusing so much on the shape, size and condition of someone else’s body all together?

      1. But it would appear that all the styles you post are from overweight women.

I feel like so many people are perversing the “body acceptance” movement. I think accepting my body is knowing that despite my healthy eating choices and taking my dog on walks, I will probably never get below 145 pounds. And that’s okay, because my body isn’t meant to be stick thin, and I’m healthy. I feel like so many people use this blog and many others as an excuse to feel better about themselves. Do these women even try to be healthy? I seriously doubt Tess does any sort of healthy eating, moderation, exercise, etc.. Just using her as the example.

Stop pretending to be so happy and comfortable with yourself. If you love yourself so much, love yourself enough to take care of yourself.

All the styles are from plus sized/fat women because this is a plus size/fatshion blog.

I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this front, I actually believe that any body has the right to be accepted and respected no matter what.

Was that meant to be aimed directly at me or a statement? I’m not pretending. I promise you that.

      3. Cassandra, the term is “body acceptance” – that means accepting it in ALL forms, ALL shapes, ALL sizes – disabled, able bodied, tall, short, fat and thin. YOUR definition of accepting YOUR body is – “I think accepting my body is knowing that despite my healthy eating
choices and taking my dog on walks, I will probably never get below 145
pounds. And that’s okay, because my body isn’t meant to be stick thin,
and I’m healthy.” and that is FABULOUS. It really is because YOU’VE accepted YOUR body but please, don’t try and tell others how they should be accepting [or not accepting] of THEIR body. They aren’t “perversing” the body acceptance movement at all, they are embracing it wholly, completely and doing with it, exactly what it was intended for – accepting and loving themselves just as they are, just like you’ve done with your body.

Healthy has such a broad definition that it can’t really be applied like a blanket to a group of people eg not all thin people are healthy and not all overweight people are unhealthy. I’m the first to admit that I’m fat, I need to shed at least HALF of my body weight and yet I’m one of the healthiest people I know AND I’m also the biggest of everyone I know. I rarely get colds, I rarely get sick full stop and IF I do, I recover very quickly. In fact the only health issues I do have are migraines and they come from a screwed up neck and back from a car accident over 15 years ago [I was slim back then too] and they will always be a constant pain in my arse regardless of my size.

You tell people [I presume that your comment was aimed at either Tess or Suger or perhaps even both or maybe every overweight person in the world who dares to be happy in their own skin] to stop “pretending to be so happy and comfortable with yourself” – why? You can tell when someone is truly happy within themselves, in their own skin, it just oozes out of them – Suger loves herself, as does Tess and so do many other plus sized bloggers I know, I don’t think they are falsifying their happiness one iota to be honest and I think your comment actually says more about YOUR unhappiness than it does about their supposed “fake” happiness with themselves.

And as for “if you love yourself so much, love yourself enough to take care of yourself” – loving yourself and taking care of yourself can come in many different ways, yes it can mean getting up every morning, exercising your arse off and only eating healthy foods but it can also mean accepting yourself for who you are, how you look, realising you’ll never be perfect, you’ll never be a size 8 or 10 or 14 and not putting yourself through the ringer of being down on your size all the time, of not stepping on scales and basing your confidence on a bloody set of numbers that pop up. Of allowing yourself to just be you and revel in that – THAT’S taking care of yourself too.

  9. Great post Suger! Tess sure does have fabulous style! I’d love to disappear into her wardrobe for a while! xx

Thank you Liv. I agree, of course!

  10. I had to laugh at cassandras post, have you not noticed what this blog is about?? I would have loved a blog like this when I was 16 and hating my body I may have found more respect for myself instead of sitting in the corner eating Bon bons hating myself and the world

I agree. I’ve been through alot thanks to my own and other people’s opinion on my body, it lead to all sorts of disordered eating and angst. I’m proud to stand where I am today and hope to help at least one girl avoid that pain.

I love the whole rockabilly style and Tess is such a great example of how us plus sized gals can work it and where to buy from. My favourite steal your style post so far thanks Suger! Also Cassandras comment made me laugh a lot. Your blog and others like it do make me feel better about myself, because you reinforce good habits and self confidence time and time again. If I feel bad I always check out the Aussie Curve ladies and I always feel better because we are beautiful fat and fabulous and learning to love our bodies and more importantly love ourselves!

Thank you hun. I appreciate the comment and the feedback on the blog. You’re always welcome here.

  12. Wow just WOW Tess is so divine, such awesome style! Great post Suger, I have to say that you have helped me so much with my own body confidence. I would have appreciated this blog and many of the other plus size fashion blogs 10 years ago when all I wore were board shorts and t-shirts and I thought I was fat then! You have given me the confidence in myself that I have never had before so thank you! xoxo

She really is, right? Great style.

Thank you Emma and I hear you. In my younger years I struggled a fair bit with myself on all levels, which is part of life for sure, but knowing there were people like me out there would have been helpful.
