Since I have been a truck drivers wife.
Sunday Hubby received a call from an old friend asking if he was available to do a run up to Emerald in a semi-trailer. They needed someone to leave that afternoon. Only a few short hours away. Knowing the forecast was for rain, rain and more rain this week {and hence his landscaping and fencing clients would be on hold anyway} he ran it by me and said yes to the job.
So he packed and planned and left within the next hour or two.
I was curled up on the couch supporting a mild hangover. The residual of my big day at the races. I offered to help but he quickly slipped back into the routine of leaving me and was out the door. It felt strange. To do something that I had done hundreds of times before. But for the first time in years. To give him a big hug and sappy kiss. Just in case. You know. All so very familiar.
And yet, I never get used to the leaving part. It turns out that no matter how much I love to be on my own. I’m kinda in love with my husband and love having him around. Who would have thought. Thank goodness he’s only going for two nights. Goodness knows how others bare it for weeks or even months.
