Lazy Bum

I was just saying today how lazy I am since finishing up at my job. How I used to manage everything so much better within the structure of the work day. Now I find it hard to complete tasks that I set for myself. I get distracted and give up easily. I don’t get that much done. I get annoyed at myself. Really annoyed. There is something to be said for that saying that goes like ‘if want something done, give it to a busy person’.
I miss being a busy person. I really, really do. The Suger Project is building {reveal post, coming soon} and soon I will have a few more things to do. But I miss the million and one things to do every day. I miss the rush of it. I am missing lots of stuff* BUT I really miss actually getting stuff done!
And perhaps it will come back. Maybe I will create another structure that works for me. Perhaps I’ll find something else to do that pushed me. Without pushing me over the edge. Maybe none of this matters in Italy. I’m thinking I need to start by breaking down my day. Setting myself a routine. Getting some semblance of order back into my life.
Any ideas? What works for you?
* I also miss the gym, reading every ones blogs, taking photos, talking to people, making money, spending money… You know. in case you were wondering.

  1. you here this a lot from people who work from home, especially when they first start to work from home. it's easy to get distracted from doing what you *should* be doing by what you *want* to do.set yourself a routine up at home. give yourself dedicated breaks at certain times so you can indulge in facebook, twitter and blog reading. write yourself a to do list and aim, at first, to get at least half of it done, building up to completing the whole list everyday within a week or so.if you have an office, make that space purely about "work" and getting things done, go somewhere else to do leisure stuff like blog browsing etc.just remember that you need down time as well, so don't beat yourself up too much ;-)~x~

  2. If you where performance managing someone would you get angry with them? Or would you take a more objective, problem solving approach? Be kind to yourself – transitioning from work to self employed is a major thing, you are allowed to work out the kinks in your schedule.x

  3. I was just thinking the other day that I miss the gym too. I haven't yet gotten around to cancelling my membership and was wondering if I should give it another shot. Decisions decisions. I could do with the saving of that money each month though.

  4. Rach – I love this. Thanks.Mrs BC – True. I just get so frustrated with myself. The kinks are magnified I think, when I feel like I'm not getting enough stuff done!Trina – Perhaps we should. Either that or I need to cancel & concentrate on walking/#c25k.

  5. I've worked from home for 10 years – but am on a self imposed 2 month break to get my stuff together and look after my daughter. I definately agree to structure – make sure you wake up at the same time each day, schedule something that will take up either your whole morning or afternoon. It makes you feel like you've done something and not wasted a day. xx
