I am the daughter of a farmer. And proud. I grew up on 400+ Acres not covered in livestock and animals and such. But covered with pineapples. Acres and acres and acres of them. We might not have had horses, but we had bikes. And we might not have had chickens, but we had a Datson. Bright orange with a hole in the floor just behind the accelerator.
It might also interest you to know that my Dad was thinking Green long before it became a ‘big thing’. It’s a farmer thing, I guess. Short showers, recycling, conservation of existing water systems and forests, minimising the impacts on the soil and replacing pesticides with natural fertilizes and such {hello chook poo and fish guts, nothing said gooooood morning like fish guts}.
But country doesn’t have to mean ugly. Or dirty {all the time}. But it does mean practical. And comfortable. And sun smart. Farmers were ahead of the ball game on this one too. I choose denim, a simple striped shirt, boots {LOVE these!} and a straw hat. I styled it up a little with ray bans, a funky cuff and some dangley earrings. Just for goodness sake, don’t wear them near the machinery.
With the show in town this weekend {one of the largest rural shows in the state. Woot Gympie} it just seems perfect that I got to flaunt my country roots this weekend. Great choice, thanks D.
