I mourn the loss..

Photo: Mine*

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

Martin Luther King, Jr

{or someone!?}

* Taken on our last trip to the USA. This statue {art thingy} used to sit in the foyer of one of the towers. It was battered and dented and broken in the collapse. I think it made it more beautiful. It now takes pride of place in a park {do you know the name, I am bad at labeling photos} as sign of hope, strength and the willingness to move forward along with the eternal flame.

  1. i think everyone shoud be reading that quote today. if we had more people who thought like the good doctor, perhaps the world wouldn't be the mess it is today…~x~

  2. Martin Luther (and Melissa) you hit the nail on the head. This is not going to make the world better.

  3. Spot on, Melissa. Wise words, best followed. x

  4. I know, right? Although, I'm grateful for the men and women in uniform who help to keep me safe, as I enjoy a life of luxury. I'm currently reading "Lone Survivor" about a Navy SEAL who was the sole survivor of a mission that went wrong, and I'm totally in awe of the strength of those Navy SEALs behind enemy lines…

  5. I an always grateful for the service people and what they provide us. And I worry for them. My brother's bestie and his little brother fly out {this week and the coming weeks} and into this.

  6. Excellent quote. I completely agree.

  7. First half of the quote is not MLK, second part is. Story is here http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/05/anatomy-of-a-fake-quotation/238257/ (just in case you were interested).
