I think a fundamental way to be happy is to not look too far back or too far forward. But to really look. All the really smart, really successful and wonderful people say the same thing. In their own way. To look at what is in front of you, around you and what you have. Without comparison, judgement or critic. To be able to soak up the love, admire the beauty and grace around us and to take the time to absorb it into us.
And I think for me, I often get caught up looking forward I forget to look around. Running, always running, moving forward and wanting what is next. Long before I have taken the time to appreciate what I have. And it hurts. To never feel like what I have is enough. To never feel content. Settled. Gratitude.
For me, when I get caught up in these moments is when I know I have disconnected from other human begins. From myself. I have forgotten that the only time I am guaranteed is now. That all I really have in reality is what I have now. That the rest is a dream or the past.
And in moments like these there is only one thing left to do. I throw myself on the ground and stare at the sky.
Happy Saturday! What are you thinking about today?
