A Love Story

There are couples that fall in love instantly. Love at first sight. We were not one of those couples. And then in other ways I guess we were pretty instantaneous. I met Hubby through my cousin. And I was sooooo not in the mood to meet any more people that day. I screwed up my nose at the boy in his PJ’s and returned to the car to make a speedy exit. Phew. I thought. Dodged a bullet. What loser’s.
It was later that night when a few of the boys came to visit my cousin at the house where her sister and I lived that I got talking to Hubby. We chatted and walked about town and the neighbouring park for hours. We set up camp on our veranda with my tarot and angel cards. I read my cousin, her sister and two of the guys. Hubby agreed to an angel card reading.
As he drew cards, he drew the marriage and children cards. We all laughed and gave him heaps. He wanted a redraw. So we let him. And he drew the same cards again. I told him to suck it up. It was obviously his fate. And started singing the theme song from Married with Children. And then it was my turn. Opting for the angel cards myself I drew my three cards.
Marriage. Children. Success.
Redraw, I shouted. Holy crap. Redraw. And they complied. I shuffled with all my might. I split the deck. I shuffled again. And do you know what. I got the same three cards. Forget the whole fates and destiny thing. What are the odds of that! And so I plonked the cards back into a pile and called it quits. Stupid things. I should have used the tarot cards.
It was 6 weeks later Hubby proposed to me. I said yes. We moved back to Gympie where my family are. We renovated a house. And sold another. We got married 2 years after the proposal in August. This year we were married five years. And all we are waiting on from our initial card reading the chilly March night, on a veranda in Emerald, Queensland is our children. And our fortunes are complete. A perfect full circle.
So do you believe in the power of the cards? Or the power of suggestion..?

  3. Whether fate or fortune, it's such a lovely thing to be appreciative of, and almost gave me goosebumps (it's too warm for goosebumps) =)

  4. I'm a spiritual person and have had numerous readings [my Mum is a medium – tho my readings have never been from her]. I've had my cards read once and it said that I would marry once and be married for life. I actually believe that will be the case. It also told me that I would work with children [I went on to work as a Nanny] and numerous other things that have come true.Guv has had a reading by my Mum and everything she told him has come true, including the "I can't see any bairns in your immediate future". Bairns is a lower Scotland/Northern England word for children.11 years on, it turns out that part of the reading would come true too! Though I am hoping that the "immediate future" is coming to an end very very soon!I believe that fate has a pathway picked out for us all and even though we may stray from it at times, we always some way, some how end up back on the right path for us.x

  5. Fate, cards, wishes on shooting stars, I believe in everything. I also believe that your children are just waiting for the right moment.

  6. I agree with River. Not being able to fall pregnant right NOW doesn't mean you never will. It's just not the right time yet. And, yes, I do believe there's more to existence than what we can touch.
