I Googled me and now I feel SICK!

Unknown Source
Well, technically I Googled Suger Coat It. Because long ago I Googled me and up came an author. An author with a number of published books and loads of followers doing her thing and a Jazz singer. Neither of which are me. Unfortunately. Settle poor bashed ego. Settle.
So yes, I Googled us. To see how we were going in the rankings. Because I am a bit curious about such things and sometimes it is fun to Google yourself. Ok? Stop judging me! Ha. And below a few listings for posts and reviews and link backs I notice something.
Something that makes me sick to my stomach.
There are at least two sites that appear to be publishing my blog feed directly to their blog. They have direct streamed my blog. I felt violated. Sickened. Oh I said sickened? Yes, well it was a disgusting feeling. My life, my baring of all things personal and private was there surrounded by Thai and Indian {thank you Google translate}.
But what do I do? What can I do? I obviously want them to stop but it is unlikely that someone who will steal an entire blog worth of posts won’t exactly be someone you can reason with. I want it gone. But at the same time I know that nobody is going to be tricked into thinking it is theirs, it is that badly done. But I hate that they exist. Liars. Cheaters. Bastards.
It is a worst nightmare for someone who was tentative of sharing personal stuff online. It makes me want to crawl into a shell and hide out. And that is the most damaging thing about this thievery. Boo hiss you bastards.
What would you do?

  1. I figure given it's on your blog it won't really be too invasive if it's somewhere else as well and I guess if it's branded as you then at least it may bring more traffic here :)

  2. oh mel that sucks! everything you have written is up there. =[ i hope you feel better soon.it's insane that they can do that and get away with it =[love.x.

  3. Loz, it is not branded as me and does not have my permission.

  4. This is TOTALLY crappy.I can understand how you would feel violated and disempowered, there must be someone out there who can advise you on what to do next…come on people!?!To take a lighter view of the issue I must say that when I opened this post in my 'reader' there was an ad for a morning sickness remedy at the bottom. So perhaps whilst you are waiting for a way through this 'yuck', the best way to deal with it is to have a cup of tea [or a little something-something] and a ginger snap biscuit.Hugs to you my friend, and spit on you stealers!x F

  5. Melissa, anything you write on your blog is automatically copyrighted. Go here to read more:http://www.ipaustralia.gov.au/ip/copyright.shtmlIf someone else is copying your blog posts word for word on another blog and trying to pass them off as theirs they're plagiarising your work.Your first move is to contact the people who are using your posts. POLITELY. And request they delete the blog or posts that copy yours. If this fails, contact the other person's blog/website host.Read this: http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=76316

  6. thats creepy. There are companies that buy blog feeds to fill up space and boost google content rankings… scumbags!

  7. That Sucks.Sorry I can't offer any advice but I send big hugs.SSG xxx

  8. Talk about writer's block. One post, I can understand… 2 even… But they're taking all your content??? Why do they even have a blog if they can't generate content for it???I was going to suggest what Megan already did… If telling the blog owners doesn't work, you can contact blogger (or their blog's host) I'm sure they'll do something about it.

  9. Go to tynt.com and you can set your blog up so that if anyone copies your stuff it will automatically link back to your blog and they can't remove that link. Also, give us theirnblog address and we will go harass them!

  10. Great suggestions above Mel! I feel bad for you as it is so personal what you write on your own blog – buggers :-)

  11. Oh my God! Noelle, that's great advice. I would feel violated too Melissa!

  12. Megan & Noelle, thanks for the tips. I will do just that. And thank you all for your support.

  13. Well, that sucks! and now I want to google me..
