Seriously I shouldn’t say anything, but I am.

I have just crossed over into being one of those people that I used to turn my nose up at and poo poo. I contract at my property management job, did you know that? And I get paid well to do it. I am the mess sorter outer’er. The problem solver. And it is working. The department has seen massive growth and the systems are clicking over nicely, the team is growing. All is good.
And so now I find myself with a problem of my own. A slight hitch in my righteous ways. I am becoming one of thooooose people. I actually use my facebook, blogger and other online personal stuff…
At work!
There. I said it. I know. You are all there going, yeah, whatever, it doesn’t matter. Who will know. It is only a bit here and there. Your work isn’t suffering… Much. If all is well than treat yourself. Oh wait. Was that you saying that or was that the excuses in my paid by the hour, very well… did I say that already, and seriously developing a guilt complex brain? Yep. Me again. Apparently.
I know it is guilt because I prepare myself well if I am heading online. I wait until the notoriously slow period, open a number of work related browser windows and log in. All the while casting furtive glances towards the door. The phone rings and I jump. Some one comes in and I swiftly click away from Blogger. I’m fast. Like a cat.
Haha.
And sneaky as hell. You see I think mostly I am sneaking because it is such a big, fat hypocritical move on my part. I used to tell off people in our office for doing the same thing. Especially in the beginning when no work at all was getting done. I would request that they limited personal stuff to breaks. And threatened site bans if this couldn’t be adhered to. I admit it. I was the social networking site Gestapo. Judgemental and cranky. That’s me.
Oh how the mighty have fallen. So here it is, here is what I want to know. How much time do you spend a day during any paid employment online doing personal stuff AND do you feel bad about it?

  1. I'm even worse…. I found a firefox add on that hides your tabs :D

  2. too much as YES!! tell myself it's okay because i always do all my work. but it's not. i know it. i wish personal use was banned.

  3. I don't call it "wasting time", I call it taking a much needed break.

  4. I'm a shocker, but as it is our business the boss can't yell at me, lol.

  5. let's just say it is lucky that I am currently on parental leave – ha! Although that said, my workplace is one of THOSE where you can't access any of the fun sites at work :)Thanks for pointing out another benefit for being a Work At Home Mum!

  6. PS. I am your 149th follower. MAN! I should have waited so I could be your milestone! :)

  7. Facebook was more interesting than my job. I quit so I could social network full time.

  8. I'll be doing my banking or something else online just as boring and it's just waaaaaay to tempting to open up another tab to check out what my fellow bloggers are up to: then… 2 hours later, whoops. I panic and quickly try to finish what I was supposed to be doing. :)

  9. That's a tricky one and I am going to sound like a goody two shoes – but the most I do is about once every 3 months I might look at my bank account at work – I am way to busy to blog, FB or anything else. I don't even check my personal email from work. I know goody two shoes – sigh.

  10. My first real job was working in an office from 9-5, I got bored very easily, especially being a beautiful summer while I was there! I told myself I wasn't going to do any of that, but after month I found myself taking quick peeks at my phone and facebook to see what plans were conjuring for that night!Fortunately it was a small business and my bosses were old, so I don't think they ever found out! …or at least I hope!

  11. Haha! Look at all my time wasting friends. Except Cheeseboy, not wasting anything :oP

  12. Hey…. You don't smoke… You should get a couple of breaks….
