Am Home. Sun Stroked. And Survived a Minor Tsunami Evacuation.

So we got evacuated this morning. Around 6.30am there was word coming through to expect a tsunami wave due to a massive earthquake in Chile. We were tired. Sunburnt. Let’s face it hung over. Hungry. All in all the call was unwelcome. But we packed our site in record time, barely taking the time to dust off the sand that accumulated in our short stay. Better safe than swept out to sea on the national news coverage.

And as promised I have some great photos. But you see I am going to use them to my best advantage going into the next National Blog Post Month thingy. I’m excited to take this challenge on again. I  made it about half way through January. An ok effort. But what I really got was a dedication to posting. A fun byproduct. But this time… I am committed to making it all the way through. And these images(the ones I started this paragraph talking about… the one’s i promised I would take). Well. They may just turn out to be valuable back up plan.

Or maybe not. I promise to show you a few sooner rather than later. After all… I promised.

But changing subject back to sunburn, have you ever been so sun burnt that you vomited? Not that it happened to me today. But it was close. I am pretty burned. Irresponsible, I know. In the age of skin cancer warnings here I am out in the sun for hours frying my face off. But it really wasn’t like that. I applied myself to reapply my sunscreen. I wore a hat. I wore sunglasses. I was however out in the heat of the day. And I forget how fair I am thanks to my office desk type lifestyle. Fatal Error. Anyway, my point. I assume your sunburn would have to be super, dooper bad to make you vomit. Just a thought.

Sooooo. Did you notice what is going on on the right hand side of the blog? Did you notice the new pics from my life? From my town? You did, awww, great. I hope you like them. They however are not what I am on about. Did you notice there are about to 100 of us here! Holy.

I wanted to say, in my sunny delirium how happy I am and grateful and in love with this whole writing and blogging thing. To think that even some portion of those almost 100 people might drop by every now and again and smile. Or laugh. Or sigh in recognition. That this blog might actually be fulfilling on its intention to be brightening someone’s day. Well, I just brim over with joy.

Oh and in case you were wondering. There was no wave. Barely bigger than high tide really. Not that we saw it. Oh no. We were home. Sleeping and rubbing on aloe. You know. The way camping should end.

  1. Hi Melissa!well done on 100 followers :) Yay!I am also in love with the writing and blogging thing. I love having an audience and comments and really just being able to write and have my voice heard. As for the evacuation – I am glad you are ok aside from the sunburn. In December 2009, there were fires in my parents' hometown outside of Albury NSW. (http://carlyfindlay.blogspot.com/2009/12/bushfires-in-gerogery.html)I live in Melbourne and a friend from Albury advised me of the fires. I tried to get in touch with my parents by phone but it was difficult – there was a storm happening in Albury so the landline phones were down, and as my parents were travelling back to their property and mobile coverage is not good in the country, I couldn't reach their mobiles straight away. I rang their neighbour – he was asleep and unaware the fires were 2 km from their house. I knew my parents would be ok because they worked in Albury, 25 km from their house, but I worried about their dogs. Anyhow, turns out everything was ok, but the main town of Gerogery was evacuated and lost four houses. 1000s of livestock were lost, and a few people I know lost their pets. My parents had the choice to evacuate or stay and defend. They stayed. Fortunately it was all ok for them and their neighbours. It was so worrying for me because I just didn't know what was going on. I called my parents each hour until midnight that night to check on them. They were sick of me. Evacuations are scary.Sorry to ramble. It's your blog afterall.I love the way you write :)

  2. Yes, I'm afraid I'm completely addicted to the writing/blogging thing, myself. Can't BELIEVE the awesome people I've connected with (like YOU!). Glad you're safe, even if it was just a kiddie pool wave. Keep applying that aloe! Cheers!

  3. You poor thing, sunburn is a horrible thing to deal with. Sounds like you had an awesome time though! We were watching webcams all morning yesterday to try and catch a glimpse of the "tsunami". What a letdown (although I'm glad nobody got hurt)!
