Friends, Flies & Other F Words.

I was driving home today from Brisbane. It is over a two hour drive. And I, well I was on cloud nine. It was one of those days that remind you how important the people in your life are.

My day started bright an early. I woke up on my bestest friends couch. It is very comfortable for couch type accommodation, it must be noted. I always get such a great nights sleep on that couch. I’m thinking of making it my bed, permanently. And when my friend arose early, just to make me a coffee before I left for the day, I smiled thinking what a great way to start the day. How lucky I am. And how much I hope that she and I will be friends until we are very old ladies, despite the fact she fed me Soya milk in my coffee. Which, I will admit, was surprisingly good. And off I went.

Later I met up with Rianna at a macdonalds to use the free wifi to jazz up her blog. She arrived in style. The girl knows how to make an entrance. Carrying flowers and wearing perfectly applied eye makeup. Bless. I love flowers. Yes, they were for me. Well I think they were, I grabbed them and loved them instantly. So I hope they were for me. We worked until the battery on my aging laptop fizzled and died. I was pleased with the result. Rianna appeared to be too. She seemed especially excited about the stuff I was able to share about gadgets. I was excited to have someone else’s blog to play around with. So we celebrated with a coffee/chai latte. And got to talking.

And I got to meet her (f)phone. A very basic and very hot pink model that I am a little surprised still works. This phone doesn’t show a contacts name when you receive a text message. Oh no, I hear you say… really!? Nope, nothing that high tech, that’s for sure. It only shows numbers. Rianna mentioned that the requirement to memorise every number can get quite tricky. I could imagine a number of occasions where I’m sure that would be the case. Can you?

Anyway, this lovely pink little number, well it matches perfectly my work emergency phone (property management = busted pipes, you know how it goes). They make a perfect elderly phone couple. Would you like to see them? I knew you would. So I took a photo.

And did I mention that this entire time the dining area was teeming with flies. Is that the word..? Probably not. Anyway, there were lots of flies and we swatted. I swore. I declared my total lack of patience when it came to such small annoyances. We laughed. With our mouthes closed of course so we didn’t swallow them. And we had one of those conversations that only people who are catching up after lots and lots of years can. We said everything. And soon, it was time fore me to leave. And off I went.

Even later I met up with my friend Dayne. He lives at the half way point between Brisbane and where I live. He visited us during the week last week. I barely had the energy to say more than a few words. He was great about that. Knowing that it was all I had to give right now. I was exhausted by the effort it took to get back into normal life after the shock of the week before.

So today, I wanted to catch up. Properly. So we sat at the empty driver reviver site. We filled that site with conversation, laughter… you know, the usual. It was wonderful. To be there with another one of my dearest friends on this day filled with friends was just great. But did I mention there was midgies or something biting us. I swear, what was with me and insects today..? And as it started to get late and other insects came out to join us. It was time for me to go. And off I went.

I arrived home in time to catch up briefly with some of my cousins and their partners whilst collecting Hubby from their house. They fed me dinner. I gratefully ate it. Rubbed my tired eyes and headed off home with promises of a proper catch up very, very soon. It was a great day, filled with wonderful conversation, a million things to be thankful for and strangely a whole heap of insects. Thank goodness some days just go like that.

This is a nod to all those people who enrich others lives. You know who you are.
