About Suger

I’m Melissa Walker Horn, but around here they call me Suger.

I’ve been blogging since 2009 and implementing digital plans for small businesses since 2010. I can’t resist coffee so you’ll often spot me in local cafes with my laptop. I love social media almost as much as I love my husband and family. It can be a VERY close second some days. Ha!

Yes, the ”e” in Suger was a mistake, but I decided to run with it, and it has become a whole thing.

I love taking photos, long days at the beach, changing up my hair colour, summer in general and cheese platters accompanied by wine. Once when I first started out blogging, I was sent an email by someone who thought they had found my doppelgänger on Pinterest. It was me, just with different coloured hair.

I have billions of first cousins. It’s literally over 50, with way more second cousins after that. Which is good, because family means the world to me, and I’m determined to spend more time hanging out with them. I met my husband, and we were engaged six weeks later. We were idiots of course, but that was 15 years ago.

AND I’ve got a thing for wine, cheese and stripes but there’s no way you’ll ever catch me eating honey carrots or apricot chicken.

Think of me as your straight-talking interwebs BFF.

I’ve had a lot of jobs, studied most things, and I’m not so great at the whole sticking with one career thing. Better luck next life, right? What I’ve always done is work for myself and run a blog. My story is one of self-awareness and confidence, a gift I wish I could offer every woman and girl out there. Maybe one day, that’s what I’ll be able to deliver.

And as far as I’m concerned there are no secret weapons to online success; you have to keep showing up for people. That’s about it! Great to meet you.

Welcome!

When Kate broke me

Recently I hit the road for a bit of work/play adventure in Mackay (and Proserpine!). I was heading up to stay with my friend Kate, maybe you know her, and attempt to be helpful in the home stretch of her renovation/visit. The second to last time I was in Mackay Kate...

But WHAT do you do?

It comes up in conversation more often than I can count. People wondering what IS IT exactly that I do? I have a blog, for sure. But that can't earn me a living, right? (right! Haha). So with family Christmas card season just around the corner, I thought I'd make my...

My new style of casual work wear

Look, I hate to brag, but for me these days, work wear is super casual and pretty much always includes sneakers. After years of working in real estate and therefore offices, it's the best change! I said the other day that it's been years since I wore heels for longer...

Lucky 13

Monday was our 13th wedding anniversary. This dude and I are the lucky holders of the 13 years of marriage, 15 years together, trophy. Which, they tell me isn't a thing but I'll raise it high anyway. Because marriage is hard and making it work can be harder. Can I be...
