Chickpea Goo Chocolate Mousse

Chickpea Goo Chocolate Mousse

Yup, you read that one right. This chocolate mousse is made from the liquid drained from a can of chickpeas. It’s called aquafaba, you can totally google it. I did. A friend had asked me if I’d heard of chickpea liquid being whipped for vegan desserts like meringues or chocolate mousse, a bit surprised by the whole thing, we went searching. Not a word of a lie, it happens!  So, of course, I had to give it a go for myself. Desiree was coming to mine for a movie night so we picked up some ingredients and decided to give it a go. How hard could it be right? Well, I underestimated it as someone who doesn’t really have the patience…

The winter of the jumpsuit.

The winter of the jumpsuit.

I’ve been a fan of the easy to wear jumpsuit since, well, forever! It took me a little while to find one that fits my long torso but the first of those that I loved was from Yours Clothing. I lived in that jumpsuit with its pockets and wide leg fit. My only struggle was the rear zip closure (always a problem) but I looked passed that, as you do. It was on high rotation for a while there. Then last month the team from Birdsnest sent me an email with the new AW17 Belle Bird lookbook. Belle Bird is their plus size offering (though, full disclosure it ends at a size 22) and I loved the simple, classic, but…

Suger’s bumper plus size fashion directory

Welcome one and all to Suger’s BUMPER plus size fashion directory. After the success of the list from Melbourne Fashion Week Plus (I know some of you still refer to that), so I thought it was time to start to compile a list of stores for plus size women. So, no matter where you are in the world, there should be something here for you. That’s exciting, right? This is a list of stores that offer you, the plus size customer, a selection of clothing just for you! I mean, come on, so much awesome.   I don’t know about you, but for me, when I started to delve into the world of online shopping I would stumble over a…

Berry Coconut Chia Cups; breakfast or dessert?

Berry Coconut Chia Cups; breakfast or dessert?

Who doesn’t love dessert/breakfast foods? I’m pretty sure that’s how doughnuts, pastries and such things started. So these Berry Coconut Chia Cups are a perfect, really filling, alternative to all that refined sugar. I’ve had to find a way to be better at mornings. Too often I would be well into mid-morning and realise that all I’ve had to ‘eat’ is coffee. With that in mind, I decided to search the interwebs for breakfast ideas and start to try some of them at home. There used to be a cafe in town that did a chia breakfast cup and it was my favourite. Their coffee was good too, which was a bonus. A lot of mornings I’d swing by, grab…

Yup, I must really annoy you.

Yup, I must really annoy you.

I must really annoy you, huh? Me and the way I won’t let you tell me what to do. The woman I am must push your buttons. I look at you, the faceless, and I stand determined, in spite of everything you said is broken about me. That must get to you. But I won’t be sorry for who I am. I won’t bow down to the lies you tell me about my worth, my body or what you deem acceptable. I bet that annoys you. And, to be honest, it’s part of why I do it. Annoying you is a part of having the chance to be free. Not being afraid to let you down or disappoint you means…

A day in my blog office

A day in my blog office

See what I did there? Optimal. My blog office daily routine is a little less “on-task” and a little more easily distracted. It’s all about being realistic because there are days, many of them in fact, that this just doesn’t happen. Such is life. Setting out with an idea of what I want it to look like helps me be more productive, get more done and know what’s coming up next. What does blog life look like? It goes a little something like this; I work about 15 hours a week outside of my home, usually across three short days. I work the rest of the days, in my blog office, on my blog and social media business. The combination of the…

Suger+Ink: Welcome Back – Season 2 Ep 1

Suger+Ink: Welcome Back – Season 2 Ep 1

Annnnnnd we’re back! For those who are into the Suger+Ink podcast, or want to be, we are live with season two. This welcome back episode covers off on our summers (I did a fair bit of complaining about the heat), blog updates and plus size industry news. Considering the topics you’d think I was pretty chill and not ranty, right? Well, as usual in relation to this, you’d be wrong. So wrong. It happened. What can I say, I’m really into being ‘sooo over’ stuff thing. Haha. While discussing the coverage the blog received at the start of this year, I couldn’t help but share my views on why some people suck. And more than that, why they’re dangerous. Suger+Ink has…

Rough cut kale coleslaw

Rough cut kale coleslaw

From packed lunches to bring a plate BBQs, this rough cut kale coleslaw is as good looking as it is delicious. By using the multiple cabbages and mixed kale leaves, you get a colourful, crunchy dish. Add your favourite whole egg mayonnaise with a dash of mustard, and you’re good to go. I use this coleslaw as a base for weekday lunches, adding eggs or tuna, chicken or even leftover roasted potatoes. It’s amazing in stuffed jacket potatoes as a meal or serve alongside things like pulled pork or anything that is rich and full of flavour. As far as storage goes, this kale salad keeps really well. Make it ahead of time and save yourself all that chopping on the…

34.

34.

How very Adele of me. Thirty-Four. Written just like that as if it will summarise all that this year has been and all the future could be. It’s my birthday, could you tell? Today I turn thirty-four years old and I have feelings about that. Not the usual feelings, I don’t think, but then I’ve never been 34 before. You see, I don’t care about getting old.  I don’t care about ageing. I don’t care about wrinkles or creases, aches and pains. That disregard is a privilege over those whose health isn’t as easy to get along with as mine. But I don’t fear getting old, or being old, I would consider that a gift. That’s not it at all. For…
