Closet clean out update!

Closet clean out update!

If you can even cast your mind back far enough you’ll remember my declaration that my wardrobe NEEDED a clean out. Urgently. So, did I do it, or did I totally flake out and NOT do it? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen, this is the closet clean out update. Firstly, you know it took me a while. That post was written and the tips to getting it done given months ago! MONTHS and months ago. But I did it. Finally. I culled my wardrobe and I was pretty darn ruthless. Anything that doesn’t fit me now, went. Anything that I hadn’t worn or considered wearing in recent memory, went. I probably still have more clothes than the average woman,…

I finally read #GirlBoss and this is what I got out of it

I finally read #GirlBoss and this is what I got out of it

#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso was one of the books I purchased in a massive buy up ages ago. I started to read it and got distracted, I never really got into it. Almost two years later I picked it up again for a day at the beach. That day I managed to read the whole thing in one sitting. I loved it. It got me excited about things. I was keen to get home and get working. This post is a sort of summary of what I took away a lot from this book. The first lesson was about what it means to work hard in business. A lot of people will tell you to work smarter, not harder. But in the…

My weekend in the Barossa Valley

My weekend in the Barossa Valley

There is much to be said about a Barossa Valley weekend well spent. And well, spent I certainly am. Or was, it’s taken me a week to put this post together, so that will give you some idea. Haha. As I wait for my plane, killing an hour or two before I’m due to board, I reflect on this. I can’t help but feel a little sentimental about the new friends I’ve made and now waved off. Bonded by women being great and generous with each other. And wine, we are bonded by wine. When Nat spoke to me about joining her on a business retreat for her clients in the Barossa Valley, I was always a yes. Nat plus wine…

It’s our 7th Birthday!

It’s our 7th Birthday!

On the 29th of October, in the final hours of the day, this little blog turned seven years old. SEVEN. How is that for something special? This blog that has loved and supported me, been my place to vent and an opportunity to effect change in my small way. This blog has become like a member of the family. And I don’t know if you guys realise it, but you are part of that too. A major part. The biggest of parts. Some of you have been here since the beginning, some signed up and joined the fun last week. Whenever and however you first made your way here, know that you are part of this. You leave your mark…

I feel personally victimised by the change of star signs thing.

I feel personally victimised by the change of star signs thing.

I can’t be the only one out there that heard there is a thirteenth star sign and freaked out a little. Because I did. I know my sister and cousin did. It’s a strange thing to admit to, I know, but I did. I’m proud of my Aries’ness. I wear the short-temper and ambition like a badge. I nod knowingly when talk turns to loyalty and personality by the bucket load. I motivate myself with thoughts of personality traits I found mirrored in my star sign. I feel like I know myself better because of it. I love being an Aries and I feel like I AM an Aries. But apparently, I’m a Pisces. WTF. Hmmm. My sign has always been in the 5 day cusp…

Suger + Ink Podcast Update!

Suger + Ink Podcast Update!

Oh heeey team, it’s been a while since I let you know about new episodes of our podcast, Suger + Ink. We’ve been pottering along now and racked up 11 episodes, not including our short and sweet intro episode. And can I tell you, we have learned A LOT. A lot. A loooooot. Did I say, a lot?  Since we started, I’ve upgraded my microphone and placed it in an Ikea box for better sound. Thanks Vanessa for THAT tip, what a legend. Samara has been trialing new and exciting editing stuff and all in all, we are proud of what we are doing. It’s exciting starting something new like this. I don’t know if you’ve gone out on a…

Life and other such things…

Life and other such things…

I slowly crawl onto the couch curling my legs under me, balling into the smallest horizontal version of myself. I exhale. Long and slow and loud. My chest releases; drops a little. The throbbing in the base of my neck subsides. I inhale deeply, dragging the air deep. With my head pressed against the softness of the couch, I can hear my heart beat. The air enters and escapes my lungs. And the tick of the clock that drives me crazy in the middle of the night ticks and tocks. Minutes sweeping by as I continue to do nothing but breathe. This is living. This is being alive and busy, tired but excited for what’s to come. This is also…

The Valentina Loves Summer chambray dress!

The Valentina Loves Summer chambray dress!

Despite a (still) full wardrobe, there’s nothing I can do to resist a chambray shirt dress. Literally nothing. There has to be a rehab for that, right? Probably. Someone do some googling for me, would you? Haha. Anyway, when the PR team for new brand Valentina Loves approached me they had my number as soon as I saw this dress. Heart eyes. It’s a pretty unique cut and style as far as sleeveless shirt dresses go. It’s pretty straight through, wide at the hips with POCKETS and dual side splits. The fabric is heavier than a light-weight chambray but not as heavy as a jean denim. If that even makes sense. For me, it’s a little small (I’m wearing the…

For the love of the plus size tankini + giveaway!

For the love of the plus size tankini + giveaway!

It’s been all about the bikini or the fatkini in the last year or two. And I love them, I think every single day you WANT to wear a bikini you should. But that said, I’m pretty much always team plus size tankini when it comes to being active in the water. If there’s one thing we know about me, it’s that I’m a water baby. And the second thing is that I have a long torso. Okay, so maybe you didn’t know that but it’s true. And a long torso means one piece swimsuits can be problematic. By that I mean they either drag my boobs to my waist or give me a permanent wedgie. I’m sure I’m not alone…
